ALMEIDA HITS WINNER IN TIGHT CUP TIE

Barham started this 2nd round cup tie in the same way they had ended the last fixture. There was plenty of good quality play towards the final third, but a lacking of quality in front of goal.  East Riding were left with breakaways and struggled to dominate the game. However the lack of quality in the final third frustrated the visitors and the game went goalless for over an hour.

There were plenty of good positive examples of attacking play from Tyas, Ingham and Skelton, but in front of goal Barham struggled.  Mitchell, Irwin, Varney and Clark marshalled a tight defence with Winsor dominating his area.

However Barhams lack of creativity meant that East Riding took the initiative and took the lead from a corner on 74 mins.

This really piled the pressure on Barham to turn the game around. After changes involving the introduction of Almeida, Morrill and Brewin meant a more mobile attack and East Riding started to struggle.

The equaliser came with 10 mins to go after opportunities had been spurned when McKenzie controlled the ball well in the box to send a looping finish bringing the game level.

Kwakye had a golden opportunity to win the game for Barham before a trademark Tyas ball over the top allowed Almeida the opportunity to win the game for Barham.

East Riding battled well but the quality of Barham shone through with the better chances falling to the Blue and Yellows.  Luke Skelton was the man of the match with a performance where he covered much of the pitch and his never say die attitude was a credit to his team mates.

The draw for the next round is eagerly awaited.
