Home cup match played on 09 March 2013.
Kicked off at 1:30 PM

Boreham came into this Dave Strachan Cup quarter final again struggling for players. 10 of the 11 last week were again available with Tom Worthington returning along with new signing Craig Tomlinson. Adam Dale was the absentee from last week following the injury he picked up which has ruled him out for the rest of the season.   The rec was deemed unplayable due to the recent downpours so the tie was switched to Hutton’s 3G astro turf pitch at Shenfield School. After a decent warm up and team talk the game began with Boreham matching their opponents all over the pitch for the first 20 minutes with chances few and far between for both sides on the small sized pitch. Stand in right back Havercroft hobbled off injured after about 20 minutes giving Craig  Tomlinsonan earlier than expected debut. Tomlinson slotted in upfront with the rest of the side shuffling around to maintain the 4-4-2.   Hutton did break the deadlock midway through the half with a well taken finish over the advancing Magsy. Then, on the half hour mark, a bizarre referring decision rocked the Boreham boys. The Hutton winger crossed the ball from close to the by-line inside the box which hit Rushy’s arm. Rushy’s arms were down by his side and he was no more than a yard away from the ball as it was struck but the ref pointed to the spot bemusing everyone. Apparently the ref claimed it was a deliberate handball... The day someone can react within half a second to punch a ball I’ll never know. Hutton tucked home the pen to double their lead with Boreham now right up against it.   Boreham were limited to only half chances against the well organised Hutton back line. The half time whistle blew with Boreham 2-0 down.   The second half was a similar story to the first. Hutton seemed to control most of the play and looked a danger on the attack. Two more goals followed leaving Boreham very little chance to get anything out of the game with about 20 mins to go. Boreham did register a goal but it would be too little too late. A Smith corner was met by a Rush header that was blocked on the line only for Cowcher to prod home the rebound.   Hutton finished off the scoring shortly before time with a well taken goal to leave the scoreline 5-1 to the Division One side.   A great cup run for Boerham ended by a decent side. Their heads held high following knocking out a prem and div one side on their cup run.   Next week’s sees a much needed return to league action with the first of three double headers to be help catch up their league games all scheduled to be at the rec. Stag’s Head visit this week with Boreham looking to avenge their League cup defeat earlier in the season and pick up all 6 pints on offer!
