A great win today lads which we needed after the last two weeks disappointments.

We started the game well and managed to take an early lead. Danny H was upended on the left wing, Raymond took the resulting free kick and delivered an inch perfect cross on the head of Stevie Bruce. 1-0.

This goal seemed to spark Steamers into life as we spent the rest of the half defending but defending well and occasionally riding our luck as Steamers failed to take several opportunities to draw level. We held out until half time and deservedly took a 1-0 lead going into the break.

We spoke about communicating a lot more in the second half and I think we did that but unfortunately we couldn’t prevent Steamers from equalizing minutes into the second half. A ball into the box wasn’t dealt with properly and the ball broke to a blue & white shirt who rattled in the equalizer. 1-1.

This was going to be a test after last week’s defensive capitulation after conceding and I was extremely pleased with how we responded. We stayed focused, kept playing our football and it wasn’t too long before we were back in front. Danny H picked up the ball on the left, cut inside and wasn’t closed down so decided to shoot and saw the ball beat the keeper and fly in off the post. An excellent finish to make the game 2-1.

I was hoping we could build on this goal and certainly wasn’t expecting us to concede a second equalizing goal roughly 10 minutes later. Steamers pressed forward and lobbed another ball into the box which wasn’t dealt with properly which again fell to a Steamers shirt who coolly finished to level the game up once again. 2-2.

Our response was yet again, excellent. We continued to play the same way we had all game and were rewarded with a third goal, which was for me, was the pick of the bunch on the day. Great work in the midfield led to the ball being played in for Ben who unselfishly squared the ball for Danny H who had the easy task of slotting past the keeper for his second and our third. 3-2.

This goal seemed to knock the wind out of Steamers and it wasn’t long before we added a fourth. A great challenge from Luke led to the ball breaking for Ben who then played the ball in behind the Steamers defense for Luke who brilliantly lobbed the onrushing keeper. 4-2, and that’s how it finished. An excellent performance and a deserved victory

Luke, who was colossal at the back today gets the MOM award. He called every ball he went for, won nearly every header and capped a fine display with a brilliant goal to make the game 4-2 and put us out of sight.

Pixham North End at the weekend and a chance to build on this result today!!
