Away league match played on 21 October 2012.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

Another win today lads which keeps us on pace with the teams towards the top of the table.

I thought we started the game in a confident mood and quickly looked to get into a passing rhythm early on but for some reason that didn’t seem to last long. Woking & Maybury (W&M) started slower in the opening exchanges but soon got into their own passing rhythm and began to take control of the midfield.

I think the small pitch caused a lot of confusion between the defensive line and the midfield which led to gaps appearing and W&M took full advantage of this. A low cross from the left hand side fell to the W&M midfielder who made no mistake by finishing well past Bruce in goal. 1-0.

This goal seemed to spark us into a bit of life and we drove forward in search of an equalizer and we didn’t have to wait too long to get one. Danny was upended in the penalty area and the referee quite rightly pointed to the spot for a penalty kick despite the protests from W&M. Ivan coolly dispatched the resulting penalty to get us back on level terms. 1-1.

The rest of the first half panned out quite evenly with both teams having spells of possession and pressure but we managed to make that pressure count. Good play down the right hand side led to the ball being played in by Mumford for Eddy who made no mistake by finishing emphatically past the W&M keeper. 2-1 HT.

The second half was again quite an even affair up until about midway through the second half when W&M went down to 10 men. A completely unjustified kick out at Danny G from the W&M midfielder led to a straight red card.

W&M going down to 10 men certainly meant that we were going to have more chances and we did through Danny H & Eddy who both went close towards the latter stages of the game but 2-1 is how it ended.

I thought we looked much better defensively in the second half and probably should have added a couple of extra goals once W&M went down to 10 men but a wins a win and it’s always good to be winning games when you’re not at your absolute best. Was also good to see Jonny Cutler back in the team.

St John’s Earthquakes at the weekend and a chance to make it 4 wins on the trot!!
