Corfe Mullen United Junior 3 vs 1 Redlands U12 Rebels Girls

As the season rolled on, the stark reality began to loom over us......Sat 27th April 2019, last game of the season at home vs Redlands "Rebels", the old enemy, the title decider!!!!

With a gale force wind gusting the length of the pitch, tactics for the captain were to win the toss and switch ends to play with the wind first half... No such luck, and early indications were that we were going to be under pressure from a strong opposition....goal disallowed, offside, PHEW!!! That early scare seemed to shock the Corfe Mullen Girls into action, and it didn't take long for them to get into their groove. Phase after phase, chance after chance, was it going to be "one of those days"? Finally after a lovely passage of play, Brooke broke the deadlock with an assured finish. So, with nerves settled the girls continued a dominant first half only for an equaliser, against the run of play. A rare break down Redlands right wing produced an undefendable cross that was unfortunately put into our own net.....Swiftly followed by the half time whistle.

The girls had nullified any wind advantage Redlands may have had in the first half and our quality shone through in the second. With the score still at 1-1, Bobbi received the ball on the right side, 20 yards out, and delivered an absolute screamer into the top left corner!!! Bring on wild celebrations and a sense of relief among the supporters!! The game wasn't done though, and 2-1 is always a nervous scoreline for everyone. The girls carried on playing their football, creating chances and defending like lionesses! Brooke put the game to bed late on with another calm finish. Cue the final whistle, wild celebrations and proud coaches and parents!! Really great to see the Poole Town coaches and players supporting us... A nice touch, and a testament to how respected the Corfe Mullen Girls are among the league! CHAMPIONS?????
