Walton Cup

A much better overall performance was had today by all, but this was only a reaction to previous performances. The first half we were the far superior team and seemed to be camped in the opponent half for the lion’s share of the game. True we had another gear to go up and we never really got going straight from the off but we controlled most of the possession and created far more than we have done in previous weeks.

I was happier with the attacking commitment we had from both full backs and midfield where I saw Andy and Matt contributing and adding the extra man when possible. I also saw Ewan take a good goal (on the second attempt) and then charge around like a mad man for about 10 mins for comedy value. Parker was outstanding creating and probing and Shane at one point had to return the full backs jersey as he skinned him so many times.

We lacked a little focus though boys and rightly or wrongly we conceded from a very soft long ball down our left hand side. Karl has put his hands up for it as the goal was as soft as a Matty Atko tackle, which by strange coincidence was missing from the actual event…..We need to be focused more, we missed a few headers in the box and a better striker would have made up pay and chase the game.

I’m glad to say after Cupids levelled it we knuckled down quickly and got our just rewards with Parker slipping in number two, this then effectively killed the game. It’s always a great time to score as Cupids we beat in the second half and came out slower than they were ending the first. We got hold of the ball and tried to play counter football, to be honest that didn’t work for us and we lost a lot of shape over it.

So much so I saw Shane again in Midfield, Right wing, Left wing and centre Forward his energy helped us out a lot, a quick sub and Mike entered the game we jiggled it a little and finally the management changed the shape into a slightly more resistant 4-4-2 shape. This helped us retain possession more and control the game. Frosty then popped up and got his goal and suddenly Cupids had a mountain to climb.

All credit to them they didn’t give up and pounced on some extremely poor passing we decided to attempt in the second half, again better teams will punish us there be more assured on the ball and don’t give it up cheaply. We can’t afford to give too many more presents away and regret out actions.

Were though and we get the chance to put our memories of Borough to rest. We need to now concentrate on our next game, it will be a test and we still need to improve.
