On Sunday 8 March 2026, Crookham Rovers Rockets U10 travelled to face Woking Town U10 Spartans in a keenly contested league away fixture at Woking’s home ground, kicking off promptly at 10:00am. The 7-a-side match lasted the full 50 minutes plus added time and ended in a thrilling 7-6 defeat for the Rockets. Despite a valiant effort, Crookham fell just short in a high-scoring encounter refereed by Cranky Yankee in front of a crowd of 30 spectators.
Crookham Rovers Rockets lined up in their customary 2-3-1 formation, deploying two central defenders, three midfielders across the left, centre and right, and a lone striker up front. Seb Ralston guarded the goal, with George Mcdowell and Tenny Harman anchoring the defence centrally. The midfield trio consisted of Ella Webb on the left, Theo Little in the centre, and Will Evans on the right, tasked with both defensive duties and supporting attacks. Leading the line was striker Cooper Whiteman, expected to convert chances created by the midfield. The substitutes available were Felix Withers and Finley Taylor, ready to inject fresh legs as the match progressed.
The game burst into life immediately as Theo Little capitalised on a defensive error to slot home a close-range finish with his right foot in the opening minute, giving Crookham an early lead. Seven minutes in, Will Evans doubled the advantage with a well-struck effort from outside the area, expertly set up by a short pass from Cooper Whiteman. The Rockets looked confident and in control during this early phase.
However, the Spartans responded swiftly and ruthlessly. Within two minutes, Woking Town scored twice in quick succession, both goals stemming from defensive lapses and close-range finishes, turning the game on its head. By the 12th minute, the visitors found themselves trailing as the opponents added two more goals, capitalising on Crookham’s unsettled defence.

At the 14-minute mark, Crookham made a double substitution, bringing on Felix Withers and Finley Taylor for Tenny Harman and George Mcdowell respectively, aiming to stabilise the backline and regain composure. Despite these changes, the Spartans extended their lead further with a goal in the 19th minute and another from a well-worked team move at 23 minutes.
Crookham responded immediately before half-time, with Cooper Whiteman pulling one back after a precise long pass from Will Evans, finishing neatly inside the box with his right foot. This goal at 23 minutes gave the Rockets a glimmer of hope heading into the break at 25 minutes.
The second half saw further tactical adjustments as George Mcdowell and Tenny Harman returned to the field, replacing Ella Webb and Felix Withers respectively at 26 minutes. The Spartans continued to press and scored again at 31 minutes through another team move, extending their lead.
Crookham’s resilience shone through as Cooper Whiteman struck twice more in quick succession. At 32 minutes, he finished off a long pass from goalkeeper Seb Ralston inside the box, and then at 37 minutes, he converted a close-range tap-in from a cross delivered by Tenny Harman. These goals narrowed the deficit and reignited the contest.
Substitutions continued at 37 minutes with Felix Withers and Ella Webb reintroduced for Tenny Harman and George Mcdowell, respectively, as Crookham sought to maintain their attacking impetus. Finley Taylor had a wide attempt at the same time, showing the team’s intent to push forward.
An attempt by Cooper Whiteman was saved at 38 minutes, but the Rockets kept up the pressure. The breakthrough came late in the match when Finley Taylor lobbed the ball over the keeper at 47 minutes, assisted by a long pass from Felix Withers, bringing Crookham within one goal of their opponents.
Will Evans had a high attempt in the final minute, but it sailed over the bar as the Rockets pushed desperately for an equaliser. Despite their efforts, the final whistle confirmed a narrow 7-6 victory for Woking Town U10 Spartans.
Theo Little was named player of the match for his early goal and overall influence in midfield, demonstrating composure and creativity throughout the game. Crookham Rovers Rockets U10 showed great spirit and attacking flair but were ultimately undone by defensive errors and the clinical finishing of their opponents in a pulsating encounter.
