Away league match played on 09 March 2013.
Kicked off at 10:00 AM

An early start today away to Somerton Town with a 10am kickoff. After last weeks game against the Cherries the Cockerels knew they had to be awake from the start for this one, although we did beat them at home in the league, a visit to Somerton in the cup seen us get knocked out and our cup run over before it even began.

The whistle blew. There was no repeat of last weeks slow start, instead the boys were straight in and pressuring the ball and player at every oppurtunity. The frst 12mins of the match we were matched in an even battle with neither team slotting home there chances.

On 14mins a short ball from Jolyon was the start of a goal that will long live in the memory of one boy... scoring easily his best ever goal for the team so far... Jolyon played the ball wide to Reece who was deep in his own half, Reece had a lot to do as he travelled down the left wing, a nice piece of skill took him around there midfielder still in our own half, he carried on his daisy run, rode another challenge and another, as he got deeper into there half approaching the goal, (i anticipated a cross) but he dribbled the ball a few more yards got the ball out of his feet, Reece then launched a left footed SCREAMER from a good 5yds outside the penalty box, it was a SCREAMER that was launched and then dipped at the last minute giving the opposition goalie not a sniff of making a save as it flew past his head and RIPPED THE BACK OF THE NET. 1-0

The team were now on it and they could sense another goal, all over the park we were battling well, however, we were still not getting it all our own way, Somerton were defending and counter attacking well, but it was our defensive play from George in midfield and our defensive pair Tom and Jo who stood strong getting our team out of trouble on a number of ocassions.

Our 2nd goal came late in the 24th minute with some great work from Connor out on the right wing, having a quick look up and delivering a fine pass to Tyler who ran in on goal, the somerton goalie rushed out to try and dive at Tylers feet, but Tyler was too quick, he showed some great foot work and skill to take the ball around the keeper and cheekily placed the ball in the bottom right corner. 2-0

The 2nd half and a couple of changes, Jo off for Nathan at the back and Jack whittle on in place of Reece on the left, the match continued much as the first with both teams having a good battle, the tackles going in fair and hard but one challenge caught George in the ankle and saw George down and injured and having to be subbed, this was a chance for Jolyon to enter the middle of the park and to control the game in what is a new position for him but not long in he also took a heavy knock and had to come off.

A quick reorganisation now saw Connor and Tyley in midfield with jack and Reece on the wings. The Cockerels carried on playing good football with aa great work rate from the team, a team move then saw Tyler with the ball he played an excellent ball from the byline, back accross the face of goal, Jack whittle was there and swung his right foot at it and connected just enough to see the ball roll into the back ot the net. 3-0 and GAME OVER.

Thank you to Somerton for giving us a great game.
