Enfield Celtic hosted Kells Celtic-Youths at Flomax Park on 1 May 2026, with kick-off at 7:45pm in a crucial league encounter. Despite a spirited display, Enfield Celtic were edged out 4-2 in a match that saw both sides trade goals but ultimately ended in favour of the visitors.
Enfield Celtic lined up in a 4-3-3 formation, deploying Sean Coyle in goal behind a back four of Jack Campion at right back, Sean O'Shea and Dean Brennan as central defenders, and Conor Geraghty on the left. The midfield trio consisted of Dan Carolan on the right, Evan Geraghty centrally, and Dylan Mcdonagh on the left, tasked with both defensive duties and supporting the attack. Up front, the forward line featured Stephen Maher on the right wing, Ciaran Gorman leading as the central striker, and Sean Mckeon on the left. The substitutes available were Tadhg Connolly, Ethan Mcloughlin, Jack Maher, and Evan Grehan.
The match began with intensity, but it was Enfield Celtic who found themselves under early pressure. At 16 minutes, Sean O'Shea received a yellow card for a bad tackle, signalling the physical nature of the contest. The visitors capitalised on their momentum and broke the deadlock in the 39th minute, scoring the opening goal to take a 1-0 lead into the closing stages of the first half.
Enfieldβs defensive woes continued as Conor Geraghty was cautioned for a bad tackle just before half-time at 43 minutes. The referee, Billy Cruise, brought the first half to a close at 45 minutes with Kells Celtic-Youths holding a slender advantage.
The second half saw Enfield Celtic attempt to claw back into the game, but discipline remained an issue as Sean Mckeon was booked for a bad tackle in the 52nd minute. The visitors quickly doubled their lead a minute later, striking again in the 53rd minute to make it 2-0.
Enfield Celtic responded with a moment of quality when Evan Geraghty headed home from a close-range corner delivered by Dan Carolan in the 57th minute, reducing the deficit to 2-1. However, the visitors were relentless and restored their two-goal cushion within a minute, scoring again in the 58th minute. The pressure mounted further as Kells Celtic-Youths netted their fourth goal in the 62nd minute, leaving Enfield Celtic with a mountain to climb.
In response, Enfield Celtic made a double tactical substitution at 63 minutes, bringing on Tadhg Connolly for Stephen Maher and Ethan Mcloughlin for Dan Carolan, aiming to inject fresh energy and creativity. Their efforts bore fruit in the 71st minute when Ciaran Gorman powered a header from a corner taken by Connolly, pulling a goal back and setting up a tense finale.
Further tactical changes followed with Jack Maher replacing Conor Geraghty at 76 minutes and Evan Grehan coming on for Ciaran Gorman at 85 minutes as Enfield sought to find an equaliser. Despite their endeavours, the visitors held firm to secure a 4-2 victory.
Dylan Mcdonagh was named player of the match for his tireless work on the left midfield, providing both defensive cover and attacking impetus throughout the 90 minutes. Ultimately, though, Enfield Celtic were unable to overcome the clinical finishing of Kells Celtic-Youths on the night.
