Home league match played on 09 July 2014.
Kicked off at 8:00 PM

Fairlands started the match with confidence from last week’s performance and it wasn't long till they were in front. Neat interplay between Rhys Legate and Mark Gentleman allowed Rhys space to hit a low finish past the despairing reach of the keeper. The team wasn't done there again moving the ball neatly through the midfield with one and two touch passes, which left the opponents with little chance. Dale Chester received the ball and a quick turn brought a foul and a penalty kick. Dale brushed himself down and stepped up confidently, giving the keeper the eyes he whipped the ball to the opposite corner leaving the keeper no chance.

The opposition then became frustrated and began making needless fouls, one challenge Phil Powell was bundled to the floor after the ball had gone, let’s just say he was less than impressed with the forwards challenge. Fairlands knew they had rattled there opponents and began to press for further goals, Callum Rowe made his mark after again neat build up play with Rhys Legate who was screaming for a return pass. Callum however saw the space open up and riffled the ball into the top right hand corner.

The fourth goal came from veteran defender Jordan Gascoyne, after bombing forward Gazza was found in acres of space after a great ball from Dale Chester. Gazza cut inside and riffled the ball low into the bottom corner leaving the keeper no chance.

On what was a one sided first half the opposition managed to muster one chance on the Fairlands goal with them getting behind the defence the angle was tight and Sean Glennon made a comfortable save with his feet.

The second half began in the same fashion with Fairlands dictating the play and creating plenty of chances. Callum Rowe looked to make an immediate impact after coming off the bench early on, this ended in utter failure with Sean dropping the ball at Callum’s feet the midfielder what seemed to be attempting some sort of showboating however fell flat on his face. He then proceeded to substitute himself through sheer embarrassment. This wasn’t to be the only blunder of the half with Lee Kingham shooting high and wide from six yards, sources say that Henry the Hedgehogs life has played deeply on the midfielder mind as he was unable to convert.

The game became stretched with Fairlands not needing to track back as much and searching for more goals. This gave the opposition a few chances to get a consolation however they were met by passionate defending with both Phil Powell and Jordan Gascoyne making vital blocks to ensure they kept their first clean sheet of the season. One Kick Wonders managed to force keeper Sean Glennon into one notable save of the half with the keeper getting down low to push away a low drive.

Fairlands looked to counter the opposition with another great chance going begging by Rhys Legate, with the goal gapping from 3 yards he somehow managed to fire at the diving keeper after quick one twos with Mark Gentleman. However the striker was able to keep composure to fire in his second of the game after great play through Mark Gentleman and Dale Chester.

The game drew to a close and an emphatic 5-0 win for the boys who knew a lot more should have gone in. However the main thing was the 3 points and Fairlands are now sitting at the top of the table with the much anticipated match next week against Barclay Boys which will prove to be a fierce encounter.

Star Man
