Home league match played on 08 September 2013.
Kicked off at 10:00 AM

The morning started with a bit of poo picking to clear the pitch of the nightly visits by Mr Fox and Mr Badger. I think it was only 90% successful L

On kick off it was Abbey that made the early running and put the Fliers under pressure for the first five minutes. The Fliers slowly got back into it and nearly got a breakthrough when a game of pinball in the Abbey area ended with a shot just wide. Encouraged by this the pressed harder and were rewarded with a superbly worked goal. A  great long cross from Sam, in defence, switched the play to the left and found Ollie. Loosing his marker he got a cross in that found Will, who’s subsequent shot was saved, bounced out to the right where the advancing Sam put the ball back in the box. Lucca was on hand to stretch out and slot passed the Goalkeeper. 1-0.

The next 6 minutes saw the boys in control, but a defensive lapse allowed Abbey to attack with 2 on 1, and the simple pass gave Jack in goal no chance and Abbey the equaliser.  1-1. No sooner had the lads kicked off when the half time whistle went.

The second half saw Ben replacing Will and Jack moving up front whilst Ollie moved into goal. The game ebbed and flowed with Ben corralling the troublesome number 9. On 26 minutes Jack got off a great shot that was blocked by the Abbey keeper. The fliers again started to press, but on 30 minutes Abbey got off a quick break that culminated in a stinging shot and stunning save by Ollie. Quick as a flash he saw that Jack was free and hit a long ball up field. Jack raced the ball passed a defender and fired of a brilliant shot, hitting the top of the net. 2-1

Abbey now threw everything forward and on 34 minutes a drive was blocked by Ollie, but he rebound favoured Abbey. Another drive, with Ollie stranded, saw Callum throw himself into making the block and clear the line.

The Fliers hold, but in the dying seconds Abbey threw one over to the right where the number 9 lost his marker and drove an excellent shot in the goal 2-2. Again as soon as the boys kicked off the whistle blew. Maybe we should only play 19 minute halves ;-)

A good start against one of the table topping favourites, bodes well for the rest of the season.
