Furngate Vets 6-2 Copthorne Vets

Another matchday morning, another headache for the gaffer. After waking up with what looked like a solid squad of 15, we suffered three late dropouts just moments before kick-off, leaving us with only 12 players. It was a frustrating start to the day and, if we're honest, the gaffer was feeling pretty deflated. But the lads around him showed real character, confidence and belief before a ball had even been kicked.

Then came a stroke of luck. Furngate Saturdays had just finished their game and, to our delight, four of their players stepped up to help us out. A massive thank you to them—it proved to be a huge turning point.

The opening 10 minutes were steady, but we took our foot off the gas. We stopped pressing, weren't getting forward enough and allowed Copthorne to grow into the game. They created several good chances, but Tyler was outstanding in goal, producing save after save to keep the scores level.

Unfortunately, even Tyler couldn't keep everything out forever. Copthorne found the breakthrough and then grabbed another just 10 minutes later to leave us staring at a 2-0 deficit.

Something had to change. It wasn't about changing positions—it was about changing our mentality. We started moving the ball quicker, attacking with purpose and believing in ourselves. The momentum shifted.

Aaron Agyeman pulled one back with a well-taken finish to make it 2-1, and just before half-time, the Ginger Ringer struck within seconds of another great move to level the scores.

The second half was a completely different story.

We came out flying, creating chance after chance. Pistol found himself clean through on goal but somehow missed what has to be an early contender for Miss of the Season! Thankfully, Copthorne returned the favour shortly afterwards with an even worse miss at the other end.

The football we were playing was superb. After a lovely passing move, Pistol redeemed himself by finding the back of the net to make it 3-2 after 60 minutes.

Copthorne still had their moments, but every time they threatened, Tyler was there again with another brilliant save. Watching from the sidelines, the gaffer could only admire what he was seeing. We were tearing them apart, stretching the game and making Copthorne look exhausted.

Then came an unbelievable finish.

With 10 minutes remaining, we exploded. Sam Tester added another with a great finish before Kenny grabbed two goals of his own. The fast Ginger Ringer completed the scoring as we ran away with a fantastic 6-2 victory.

Player Mentions

Tyler was exceptional all afternoon, producing countless outstanding saves to keep us in the game when it mattered most.

Michael was rock solid in defence and even had a spell up front, showing his versatility—although his shot that landed somewhere in Row Z won't be remembered quite as fondly!

Matty Clarabut was absolutely solid once again, while Ben was fantastic, showing his tekkers throughout the game.

Fish had an excellent match, winning his aerial battles and putting in a real shift.

Garry didn't get many minutes, but when he came on he played well; his attitude from the bench was first class and exactly what this team is about.

Man of the Match went to Sam Tester, who completely controlled the midfield and pulled the strings all game.

Lee Henderson showed his quality once again, forming a brilliant partnership with Sam in the middle of the park.

Aaron Agyeman continued his fine form by grabbing another goal, and his quality still shone through.

Aaron Morton made an excellent debut, while Tom Westpfel once again showed exactly what he brings to this football club with another impressive performance.

Pistol had one of those days where nothing seemed to come off for him, but to his credit he kept going, got his goal and played his part in the win.

There was a brief handbags moment involving our former player Simon and Pistol; the handbag gift was like Strictly Come Dancing, but it was nothing more than a bit of passion that you'll see in plenty of games.

A special mention must go to Kenny from the Saturday team. He was outstanding, scoring two goals and providing three assists in a superb display.

Days like today make you proud to be part of this football club. Not only are we becoming a very good football team, but we're also becoming a fantastic group of people who fight for each other no matter what obstacles are put in our way.
