Claudy United FC 1 - 7 Glendermott Football Club
A bad day at the office for Claudy United as they failed to follow up last weeks good performance.
Claudy were on the back foot from the start and found themselves behind after 5 minutes when the Claudy defence failed to clear, and the Glendermott man slotted the ball in at the back post, 0-1. It was two-nil soon after when the Claudy keeper clattered the Glendermott striker in the box leaving the ref with no option but to award the penalty kick, which Ricky McClelland duly scored, 0-2. With only fifteen minutes gone a headed clearance fell to a Glendermott player at the edge of the box who fired his shot into the bottom corner, 0-3. It could have been worse for Claudy as Craig Downey squandered a couple of great chances, but they did make it four before twenty minutes when Ricky McClellands angled free kick deceived everyone in the box and ended up in the net, 0-4. Claudy did manage to steady the ship and slowly got into the game without creating chances. They did score, what proved to be a consolation goal, before half time when Kyle Mcsparronfired a bullet header into the roof of the net from a Ryan Hornby corner, 1-4 Half-time.
Claudy changed things about at half time, and came out stronger with lots more possession but still failing to trouble the Glendermott Keeper. After twenty minutes of stalemate in the second half, it was Glendermott that scored their fifth when Clark Smy fired a low shot across the box into the corner of the net, 1-5. Ricky McClelland sealed his hatrick with ten minutes remaining when Glendermott had spare men down the left where Ricky beat his man and rifled a shot from the edge of the box into the corner, 1-6. Glendermott completed the rout in the final minutes when a good break down their right was crossed back across the box to be met at the back post by the oncoming Glendermott forward, 1-7.
A disappointing result for Claudy but credit goes to Glendermott who on the day showed great movement off the ball and fully deserved their victory.
Time to group together again lads, get the heads up, and prepare for next weeks encounter away to Churchill United at Wilton Park.
