Guidepost Crash out in 1st round.

The battling Blyth Whites side gained quick revenge for the league defeat a couple of weeks ago, in another very close game between two evenly match sides. Again there was good chances at both ends throughout, but it took a deflected goal on 29 minutes to split the sides.  Too many of our players had an off day, and we were made to pay by the Whites.

First Quarter - Joseph, Harry, James Josh Elliott Dylan Sam

With Aaron missing a games in a few weeks time, Joseph was given some practice and started in goal. While Sam was given a run up front. We could have been 1 up in the first couple of minutes, Sam got away from the defence, and with the keeper to beat he just put his shot wide. Joseph had to come out well in the 3rd minute to bravely avert the danger. Whites then on five minutes, after some neat football, had a good opportunity but the striker just shot wide. On 8 minutes Dylan had a good run but a brave last ditch challenge saved the day.  Elliott on 10 great run, and nice cross, but a desperate White boot kept it out. Right at the end of the quarter good football put the Blyth player through one on one, but Joseph came out well and managed to push the strong shot on to the post, and it came back to him fortunately. End of first 0-0.

2nd Quarter - Aaron James Sam Harry Elliott Dylan Dane

This was a very tight quarter with clear cut chances few and far between, the best chance came on 21 minutes when Dylan passed nicely for Elliott who run down the left and put in a lovely cross right down the middle of the box but Dane, just couldnt quite manage to get just the touch which would have been needed. Aaron, Sam & James did well to keep the whites to only a few half chances in this quarter.

3rd Quarter - Aaron James Sam Harry Elliott Joseph Dylan

27 minutes we should have took the lead, Josh made a super run down the left and put in a lovely ball for Dylan who took it on well, but one of one with the keeper like Sam in the first quarter his good shot just went agonisingly wide. Two minutes later, and with seemingly no danger the shot which Aaron had covered took a deflection off one of our players and went into the corner. Just one of those things. We battled back though, with Joseph, Elliott and Josh all going close, but good keeping kept us out. While again after neat football Blyth had excellent chance but the ball just went wide. 1-0 to Whites

4th Quarter - Aaron Sam Harry Josh Elliott Dane Joseph (Sub in quarter due to player going off Dylan for Dane) -  End to end again in this quarter with Josh having a good shot again just going wide, and then another good oportunity from a corner on 43 minutes, Joseph passing nicely to Sam, who's strongly hit shot, went flying into side netting.  Joseph and Dylan were cauing the Whites problems but their hard working defence kept them out.

On the balance of play think the Whites deserved their piece of good fortune for the goal. In these tight games, we have been taking our chances but it wasn't to be today. Good luck to the Whites in the next round, while we get another chance as we now enter the Shield competition.

For the man of the match today thought there was four main contenders. Elliott despite not quite being at best had a good game and got the away coach's man of the match award. Josh again played well, good runs down the left, Dylan likewise full of running, but just sneaking it for me & Jamie for home coach's choice was Joseph, made a very good save in nets, and worked hard in midfield getting our passing going. Needs to do it week in week out.

Lets put today behind us, work hard in training  and get back to passing the ball more, and working that bit harder, we are a good side but need to be more consistant.
