Headless Cross came into today’s game knowing that a win would keep them joint top of the league. The game started fairly evenly with both teams trying to push forward to create an opening. After 10 minutes HC settled into the game and started to pass the ball with confidence and composure from then on Droitwich were chasing shadows. A great move down the left side of midfield between Becky Smith and Jade Cole created the opportunity for Becky to cut inside and finish with confidence to put HC in front 13 minutes 0-1 to HC. From the restart HC continued to play great football, keeping possession well and putting pressure on the Droitwich defence and goal keeper. It was only 5 minutes later that some superb teamwork starting from a ball from Becky on the left wing enabled Jade to run on and have a strike at goal, the Droitwich keeper managed to stop the shot but was unable to hold the ball to which Hollie Lavery had anticipated and cleanly slotted the ball into the back of the net 18 minutes 0-2 to HC. For the duration of the first half the game turned in to a scrappy affair with both teams trying to dominate.

Half Time

Droitwich 0-2 Headless Cross

Second Half

HC had to make changes at Half Time with Chloe Hill stepping into goal, Amy Taylor pushing out into centre back and Amie Iles assuming an unfamiliar position of right full back allowing Bryony Ward to move to centre midfield to support Sarah Dayus. HC started the second half with a real sense of determination and started to play some fantastic football and completely dominating the half. Jade and Becky continued as an unstoppable force working the ball down the left side with support from Sarah and Bryony in midfield. 10 minutes into the half Becky put another great ball through to Jade and this time there was no stopping HC captain Jade Cole as she gave the Droitwich defence and keeper no chance 0-3 to HC. Droitwich seemed to be deflated by the passing and possession that HC were displaying and a rare attack on the HC goal from Droitwich was soon stopped by Amy Taylor who calmly played the ball out to Megan Lewis on the left. Becky Smith made a great run up the wing and a precise pass from Megan Lewis put Becky Smith once again in a great position to look for Jade Cole who was ready for another goal, working together again allowed Jade to get her second of the game 0-4 to HC. Straight from the KO HC applied the pressure and continued with the superb performance of football. Working the ball from defence Amy Taylor once again played the ball out to the feet of Amie Iles on the right; Amie Iles got her head up and made her move down the wing passing into Sarah Dayus and running on to receive the ball back. Jade Cole gave a shout and Amie passed the ball in for Jade Cole to go for goal again and with great composure Jade got her Hat-Trick 52 minutes 0-5 to HC. Droitwich attempted a break on the HC goal and with a brilliant save from Chloe Hill HC were keen to move the ball back into the droitwich half. HC exploited the wings today with great passing and movement on the left and the right. Jodie Cheetham came on to give Becky Smith a well-earned rest. With Hollie Lavery and Jade Cole working the ball between them it wasn’t long before Hollie Lavery was in on goal and on 55 minutes made it 0-6 to HC. Once again Hollie Lavery was on for a Hat-Trick and with a great run from down the right Hollie cut inside and on the right foot put a superb ball in over the keeper and into the top corner 60 minutes  0-7 to HC. With 15 minutes on the clock HC was not content to sit back and see the game out, the girls continued pressing and with Jodie Cheetham cutting in on the left and passing the ball into Jade Cole in the box it was surely only going in one direction GOAL 65 minutes 0-8 to HC.

The remaining minutes of the second half saw a shot from Jade Cole hit the cross bar and more excellent football from every HC player on the pitch.

This was a thoroughly deserved win for Headless Cross, You all played superb football today and Well done to all the girls. Manager and coaches are very proud of your commitment and performance!!!!
