United gracefully bow out of the cup.

H.g. united manager James Wright was proud of the players performance although they were edged out of the first round of the Delmar cup!

Speaking after the game Wright said " poor finishing cost us" and it was there for all to see as he watched his side fail to put the game beyond Bourneville after Watching his side take the lead in the first half.

H.g united looked the better of the two teams in the opening half and thought they'd took the lead after 25 minutes when Blake hit the side netting after being released down the left by Butterly.

They didn't have to wait much longer for the opener as five minutes later  Sean collected the ball in the centre of the park and set Tom free down the right hand side  who sent a great cross into Browning who controlled the ball on his chest and layed it off to the feet of Butterly who mis hit his shot and the ball rolled into the path of Browning who toe poked the ball home 1-0

With United dominating the play it came a bit of a shock when Bourneville levelled the scores on the stroke of half time. A high ball over the top decived both Sean and Steve and fell to the striker and sent a volley into the back of the net, 1-1

Half time

H.G United 1-1 Bournville village

United again started the Brighter team and thought they'd regained the lead when Browning sent his shot just wide five minutes in to the second half.

Bournville Started to regain possesion and with the united Midfield getting tired started to create problems, United had there keeper and defence to thank on numerous occasions and when Village saw an effort sail just wide of the post, Wright knew he had to make a change... on 70 minutes Wright replaced Ricketts in the centre of the park with spud who swapped posistions with Browning on the left wing,

United started to find some shape again and on 75 minutes were rewarded a penalty when Blake was sent tumbling in the area... Blake dusted himself down but the usually competant Blake saw his effort roll wide of the post.

This lifted Bourneville and they started to take control of the game, Manger Wright replaced the tiring Blake after 80 minutes but the Bourneville onslaught continued and when Boon saved low with his feet United were let off.

Full time  H.G.United 1-1 Bourneville Village

Extra time began fairly even Both sides looking for the win, But 10 minutes into the first half of extra time Bourneville took the lead when the ball deflected off the back of Terry into the path of the Village Striker who made no mistake from 10 yards.. 1-2

United were gutted but their determination saw them equalise just minutes later when some good work from spud on the wing United won a corner, the ball was swung in and cleared to Butterly on the edge of the area and he drove the ball through the crowd of players and into the back of the net!! 2-2

United were pumped now and went searching for the win.

The second half of extra time saw united again dominate  and thought they'd won it when the ball was rolled back across the area by Butterly into the path of Browning who's shot hit the corner flag rather than the back of the net!!

United again went close and when Substitue Conehead rounded the keeper on the stroke of full time thought they'd won it but the keeper pounced for the second time and collected the ball.
