Home friendly match played on 20 April 2019.
Kicked off at 5:00 PM

For the second week in a row, we were at Bedok Green Sec. This time to face a real veterans team. Well, at least that’s there team name. Colin decided to rest for this week and entrusted Ron with managing the team for the day. He promptly decided to change formation and played 4-4-2, starting both the captain and manager upfront.

16 of us turned up at 5.15pm while the opponents had to start the game with 9 players. The numerical advantage told as we were well on top early one. However, the opponents were no push overs, easily passing the ball aroubd when they had the ball. Max was on a rampage and was way too good for them as he weaved in and out of them. We had numerous chances to score but failed to take advantage of it. A run down the right by the captain latched onto a ball from Harold. He fizzed the ball through the keepers legs and the cross was missed narrowly by both Colin and Patrick at the far post. Strangely, we waited till they had 11 players before we took the lead. Harold cut in from the right and swung his right foot. It flew right across the goal and into the top right. That lead didn’t last long though. The opponents had some quick players and their passing broke our off side trap and they strolled in to pass the ball into the net. We made things not so easy for ourselves too. Probably frustrated by the amount of chances we were missing upfront, Bee decided to test Sherman with a miskick. He saved it. But it went to an opponent who crossed it low and hard across the box. Kee had to touch it, otherwise it would have been a tap in at the far post. And touched he did, towards goal and it somehow struck Sherman and bounced out. Lucky lucky. Half time couldn’t come quick enough for the referee as one of the opponents was non-stop scolding him. The ref gave him a red card but somehow took it back. 1-1 at half time.

Ron decided to keep the starting 11. And his faith was repaid when Max got a pass off the chest of Jansen, who then laid it on a plate for the captain. He turned and placed the ball into the net calmly with his left foot. 2-1. That turned the tide. Harold was dangerous whole game with his crossing. And with one such cross, the defender actually headed it into his own goal, leaving his goalkeeper stranded. We then scored a 4th. Pikachu and Max combined brilliantly down the right. Max went to the byline and crossed the ball back to the penalty spot. Colin half twisted his body and probably his ass to get his right foot around it to score. We had a lot more chances to score but didn’t. Notably Pat who kept arriving at the far post but cannot connect. That’s what it really means by being effective. Colin had a good chance as well. He got hold of a ball outside the box and connected it so well, it went past the keeper but struck the cross bar so hard that it almost broke it. That was a beautiful goal if it had went in. We decided the game wasn’t exciting enough. So we conceded another goal. How it went in, I not really sure, because I was already outside admiring my contribution and thanking Ron. The tackles were then coming in thick as fast on us. Somehow we kept our cool to prevent it escalating. And we thoroughly deserved the win as the final whistle blew.

Well done Ron. For stepping up and showing that someone else can do the job too. Maybe you should be the next manager.
