Lads Club Juniors U12 travelled to Wellington Playing Fields on the morning of 22 February 2026 to face Wellington Youth U12 in a 9-a-side friendly match, kicking off promptly at 10:00am. The contest ended in a 1-1 draw after 60 minutes of competitive football, with both sides sharing the spoils in a tightly contested encounter witnessed by 27 spectators.

Deploying a 3-4-1 formation, Lads Club Juniors U12 set up with Tommy Taylor in goal, protected by a back three comprising Charlie Clueit at right defender, Archie Rigby centrally, and Louis Howells on the left. The midfield quartet featured Chase Bracegirdle on the right, Zayn Prosser and Flyn Watkins occupying the central midfield roles, and Joseph Lee on the left flank. Leading the line was striker Oscar Jones, positioned just ahead of the midfield to spearhead attacks. This setup aimed to balance defensive solidity with midfield creativity and attacking support. The substitutes named were Charlie Arnold, Finn Jones, and Lucas Price.

From the outset, Lads Club Juniors looked to assert themselves, with Oscar Jones testing the Wellington Youth goalkeeper early on. His first one on one in the fifth minute was well saved, followed by another effort two minutes later that was similarly denied. Tommy Taylor was called into action at the ninth minute, comfortably catching a cross to maintain the clean sheet.

Joseph Lee demonstrated his playmaking ability at the twelfth minute with a precise slide rule pass, carving open the opposition’s defence and signalling Lads Club Juniors’ intent to create chances through midfield ingenuity.

The first quarter of the match saw a flurry of substitutions at the fifteenth minute, with Charlie Arnold replacing Charlie Clueit at right defender, Finn Jones coming on for Flyn Watkins in central midfield, and Lucas Price taking over from Chase Bracegirdle on the right midfield. These changes injected fresh legs and maintained the team’s shape.

Joseph Lee continued to threaten, forcing a save at the eighteenth minute, while Oscar Jones’s attempts at goal remained persistent, though one effort drifted wide at the twenty-third minute. On that same minute, Oscar Jones was correctly flagged offside, a decision repeated again at the twenty-fifth minute, both times a testament to Wellington Youth’s disciplined defensive line and Oscar Jones' persistence to chase everything.

Archie Rigby’s defensive awareness was on display at the twenty-fourth minute when he intercepted a promising Wellington Youth attack, preventing a clear chance. However, Lads Club Juniors’ discipline was tested when Lucas Price committed a tackle from behind at the twenty-ninth minute, conceding a foul.

Just before half-time, the deadlock was broken. At the thirtieth minute, Archie Rigby delivered a long pass into the box, which Oscar Jones expertly finished with his left foot from close range after rounding the oncoming keeper, giving Lads Club Juniors the lead. The goal was a reward for sustained pressure and intelligent play.

Immediately after the goal, Lads Club Juniors made further substitutions to refresh the squad. Chase Bracegirdle returned to the field for Oscar Jones, Flyn Watkins replaced Joseph Lee, and Charlie Clueit came back on for Louis Howells. These changes aimed to maintain intensity and defensive stability going into the second half.

Wellington Youth responded swiftly, equalising just two minutes later at the thirty-second minute with a left-footed finish inside the box, cancelling out Lads Club Juniors’ advantage and setting up a tense remainder of the match.

Lucas Price nearly restored the lead at the thirty-second minute when his shot hit the post, narrowly missing a crucial goal. Finn Jones then provided a slide rule key pass at the thirty-fifth minute, followed by a long pass from goalkeeper Tommy at the thirty-sixth, both illustrating Lads Club Juniors’ continued attacking intent.

Defensively, Charlie Arnold intercepted a dangerous Wellington Youth move at the thirty-sixth minute, while Charlie Clueit cleared a threat at the thirty-ninth. Archie Rigby was instrumental in defence, heading away a chance and making a crucial tackle shortly after. Zayn Prosser also contributed with an interception at the forty-first minute.

Chase Bracegirdle was caught offside at the forty-second minute, a correct call reflecting Wellington Youth’s effective defensive organisation. Finn Jones’s attempt at goal went just wide at the forty-third minute, and Lucas Price made a vital tackle at the forty-fourth minute to halt another opposition attack. Flyn Watkins chipped in with a flicked key pass in the same minute, keeping Lads Club Juniors’ offensive efforts alive.

At the interval between halves, Lads Club Juniors made three substitutions: Louis Howells returned for Archie Rigby, Oscar Jones came back on for Zayn Prosser, and Joseph Lee replaced Finn Jones. These changes sought to reinvigorate the side for the final stages.

Chase Bracegirdle was busy defensively early in the second half, making both a tackle and a clearance at the forty-eighth minute. Unfortunately, Louis Howells had to be replaced due to injury at the forty-ninth minute, with Archie Rigby returning to the defence.

Archie Rigby attempted a shot from a free kick at the fifty-first minute, which was well saved, while further substitutions saw Finn Jones come on for Chase Bracegirdle at the fifty-second and Zayn Prosser replace Lucas Price at the fifty-third minute.

Joseph Lee continued his defensive duties with a well-timed tackle at the fifty-fourth minute. Archie Rigby cleared another danger at the fifty-seventh minute, and Zayn Prosser’s shot went wide at the fifty-eighth minute, reflecting Lads Club Juniors’ ongoing efforts to find a winning goal.

The match concluded with both teams locked at 1-1, a fair reflection of a competitive and spirited friendly encounter. Lads Club Juniors U12 showed resilience and tactical awareness throughout, with key contributions from both defence and attack, while Wellington Youth U12 matched them stride for stride on their home turf.
