On 18 October 2026, Lads Club Juniors U13 hosted Kington U13 at their home ground in a 9-a-side cup match, kicking off promptly at 12:00pm. The Lads Club Juniors emerged dominant with a comprehensive 3-0 victory after 60 minutes of competitive football plus added time, much to the delight of the 29 spectators in attendance.
Lads Club Juniors lined up in a 3-4-1 formation, deploying three defenders at the back, four midfielders across the middle, and a lone striker leading the attack. Lucas Price took his place between the sticks as goalkeeper, shielded by Louis Howells on the right, Archie Rigby centrally, and Rupert Bruton on the left in defence. The midfield quartet consisted of Thomi Scoular on the right wing, Zayn Prosser and Will Horley occupying central midfield roles, and Riley Smith operating on the left wing. Oscar Jones was tasked with spearheading the attack as the sole striker. This setup was designed to provide defensive solidity with three at the back while maintaining width and creativity through the midfield four, supporting the striker with supply and link-up play. On the bench, substitutes Chase Bracegirdle, Flyn Watkins, and Finn Jones awaited their chance to influence the game.
The match began with Lads Club Juniors immediately asserting themselves. Within three minutes, Louis Howells produced a clever cross, setting the tone for attacking intent. This early pressure paid dividends just a minute later when Riley Smith opened the scoring squeezing a low shot between the keeper and the near post, finishing a well-worked team move after a short pass assist from Will Horley. The goal highlighted the fluidity of the midfield and the effectiveness of the wide players in creating chances.
Rupert Bruton came close to doubling the lead in the seventh minute with an ambitious attempt that sailed high over the bar. Shortly after, Oscar Jones demonstrated his playmaking ability with a key pass in the eighth minute, while Archie Rigby’s interception at the back a minute later helped maintain defensive composure. Louis Howells was instrumental in defence too, executing a crucial tackle in the twelfth minute to prevent a Kington chance.
Oscar Jones tested the opposition goalkeeper in the 13th minute with a half volley shot, only to be denied, but the Lads’ defence remained resolute with Rupert Bruton clearing a header moments later. Will Horley continued to orchestrate play with a key pass in the 14th minute, which was quickly followed by a saved attempt from Zayn Prosser, showing the team’s willingness to shoot from midfield. Louis Howells again proved vital defensively with a headed clearance in the 17th minute, while goalkeeper Lucas Price confidently caught a cross in the 18th minute to keep the clean sheet intact.
A tactical change came in the 20th minute when Chase Bracegirdle replaced Thomi Scoular, adding fresh legs to the midfield. Archie Rigby maintained defensive solidity with a headed clearance in the 22nd minute, and Riley Smith contributed defensively with a timely tackle in the 23rd minute. The Lads Club Juniors doubled their advantage in the 25th minute when Oscar Jones scored a close-range tap-in with his left foot, capitalising on a long range strike from Rupert Bruton that was dropped by the keeper momentarily.
Archie Rigby’s interception in the 28th minute helped keep Kington at bay as the first half drew to a close. At half-time, Lads Club Juniors led 2-0, having controlled much of the game through disciplined defending and incisive attacking play.
Half time Substitutions saw Flyn Watkins replace Chase Bracegirdle. The second half resumed with Louis Howells delivering a long pass key pass in the 30th minute, immediately followed by a clearance to thwart an opposition attack. Finn replaced Riley Smith six minutes later and was soon shown a yellow card for kicking the ball away showing the referee wasn't taking any nonsense today. Zayn Prosser’s shot was saved in the 41st minute, but the team’s defensive efforts remained strong, with Thomi Scoular returning to the field for Finn Jones in the 44th minute and promptly clearing danger.
