Maidenhead Crown FC 4 – 2 Maidenhead Nomads Res / SUNDAY MORNING LEAGUE TROPHY ROUND 2

This was our 4th cup game in a row, having only won one of the previous 3 games, it was vital to beat Maidenhead Nomads.

Having lost 3-2 in the last two games we were hoping our luck was to change against our local rivals and it did.

We were the brighter team and more of a threat throughout the entire match.

A great run from JAMES MURDOCH resulted in the opposition taking him down in the area which resulted in a penalty, DUNCAN FORD could not produce from 12 yards out as the opposition keeper saved his spot kick.

However we did not have to wait long for our first goal, on the 15mnt mark debutant STEVEN EATON controlled a pass and slotted the ball home from around 10 yards to put us 1-0 up.

Against the run of play, with one of their only attacks of the half, the opposition equalized.

But after another great run by JAMES MURDOCH, he cut the ball back for STEVEN EATON to score his second of the match, a great first time finish.

We continued to press for a 3rd goal before halftime but it wasn’t to be.

Halftime score 2-1

We started the second half in the same fashion as we ended the first, but again against the run of play we conceded another sloppy goal which brought the game to 2-2.

Immediately from kick off, we scored to make it 3-2, SAM BROWNE scoring after coming off the bench only a few moments prior to that. It was a good finish from inside the box after being set up by man of the match STEVEN EATON. That was SAM BROWNE first goal in 6 games.

More chances were created and sadly were not finished on a day where we should have been out of sight and not given the opposition a chance to think they were in the game.

On the 80th mnt, PAUL NEWPORT scored the goal of the season so far. His shot beat the goalkeeper from just over the halfway line, an incredible effort that will take some beating.

From there we just saw the game off. It was a very good win and we carry on to the 3rd round of the League Trophy. This will do our confidence the world of good.

We are back to league action this Sunday when we travel to play Shooting Staines FC.
