Maidstone United KYL travelled to Kings Hill Sports Park on 18 October 2026 for a 12:00pm kick-off in a cup away match against Kings Hill U15 KYL. Over 70 minutes of football plus added time, Maidstone United KYL emerged dominant with a 4-1 triumph, showcasing their attacking prowess and defensive solidity. With Captain Eddie Ambrose still injured Liam Rich stepped up again to wear the Captain’s armband.

Maidstone United lined up in a 3-4-3 formation, deploying three defenders at the back with Ethan Webb on the right, today’s Captain Liam Rich centrally, and Max Carney on the left. The midfield quartet consisted of Tosan Okomi on the right, Bertie Hayward and Harrison Smith centrally, and Bernie Farley on the left. Up front, the attacking trio featured Will Stroud on the right, Zaph Kouassi as the central striker, and Sawyer Booth on the left. Harvey Rostron guarded the goal. The substitutes available were Zane Clements and Rylee Rodgers. Charlie Lyonette serving the last game of his suspension joined the coaching staff as well as injured Eddie Ambrose to get behind their team mates. They’ll both be back in action next week. With Harrison Gourlay on holiday, we also look forward to seeing his debut when he returns.

From the outset, Maidstone United showed intent. Harvey Rostron made an early catch in the first minute, while Bertie Hayward promptly cleared danger. The defence was alert as Ethan Webb intercepted a threat shortly after. Infront, Zaph Kouassi, Tosan Okomi, and Bernie Farley each delivered precise slide rule passes within the opening minutes, setting the tone for fluid attacking play. Liam Rich’s interceptions and long passes helped transition the ball from defence to attack, complemented by Max Carney’s timely tackles and long balls.

The early exchanges saw Maidstone’s defence, led by Liam Rich and Max Carney, repeatedly thwart Kings Hill’s advances with interceptions, tackles, and clearances. Ethan Webb’s interceptions and long passes were pivotal in maintaining possession and launching attacks. The forwards combined well, with Will Stroud and Sawyer Booth attempting shots and creating chances, although some early efforts were saved or went wide.

As the game progressed, Harrison Smith’s long passes and slide rule assists became increasingly influential. At the 17th minute, Smith delivered a pinpoint cross that stuck the post, however, a lively Will Stroud was sharp and expertly finished with a back heel using his right foot, opening the scoring for Maidstone United. The defence remained resolute, with Bertie Hayward and Liam Rich blocking and clearing attempts to maintain the lead.

Shortly after, Zaph Kouassi carved his way through the Kings Hill defense, forcing them to bring him down in the 18 yard box. Kouassi converted the penalty with a composed right-foot finish, doubling Maidstone’s advantage. This goal coincided with a double substitution: Zane Clements replaced Bernie Farley, and Rylee Rodgers came on for Sawyer Booth, injecting fresh legs into the side. The new arrivals quickly integrated, with Max Carney and Ethan Webb continuing to supply long passes, while Harrison Smith and Rylee Rodgers combined effectively in midfield.

Going into the second half, changes were made re-introducing Bernie Farley for Bertie Hayward and Sawyer Booth for Will Stroud.

Maidstone’s dominance was evident as they controlled possession and created numerous chances. Harrison Smith found the net again at the 46th minute when he scored from close range following a cross from Zane Clements. A superb pass from Rylee Rodgers gave Clements a scoring opportunity who unselfishly, delivered precisely for Smith to rifle home. A particular highlight of the match with quick passes in transition.

Further changes were made at 53 minutes, Will Stroud for Zaph Kouassi and Bertie Hayward for Tosan Okomi. Despite Maidstone’s control, some miscommunication in the back line led to Kings Hill pulling a goal back at the 54th minute, briefly halting Maidstone’s momentum.

However, Maidstone’s goalkeeper Rostron remained alert, making crucial saves and catches to deny further opposition threats. The team responded swiftly with Will Stroud and Bernie Farley orchestrating attacks through slide rule passes and long balls. The midfield and defence worked tirelessly, with players like Liam Rich and Bertie Hayward making key interceptions and clearances.

In the closing stages, Harrison Smith provided another assist with a left footed cross that Liam Rich converted from close range with a well rehearsed near post run at the 66th minute, sealing a commanding 4-1 lead. Maidstone’s defensive discipline was maintained, with Will Stroud and Max Carney making important tackles and clearances. The final minutes saw some fouls from Maidstone players, but the team’s composure ensured no further damage.

Will Stroud’s contribution was particularly noteworthy, combining goals, key passes, and defensive work, earning him the player of the match accolade. Maidstone United KYL’s 3-4-3 formation proved effective, balancing defensive stability with attacking flair, and their clinical finishing ensured a comfortable victory on the road. A professional performance with period of possession and overall control, seeing the squad into the next round of the cup.
