With Eddie Ambrose sidelined through injury, Liam Rich stepped up to take the Captain’s armband for today’s fixture. Maidstone lined up in a 4-1-2-3 formation, deploying Harvey Rostron in goal. The defensive line consisted of Zane Clements at right back, today’s Captain Liam Rich and Ethan Webb as central defenders, and Max Carney on the left. Bertie Hayward operated as the holding central midfielder, shielding the defence and distributing play. Ahead of him, Bernie Farley took up the right attacking midfield role, with Tosan Okomi on the left. The front three featured Rylee Rodgers on the right wing, Zaph Kouassi leading the line as striker, and Sawyer Booth on the left wing. The substitutes available were Harrison Smith, Will Stroud, and Eddie Ambrose. Charlie Lyonette showed his support in the technical area sadly being unable to play due to a suspension. We were also accompanied by new signing Harrison Gourlay to support his new squad mates. We look forward to seeing them both in action in the coming weeks.
From the outset, Maidstone showed intent with Bertie Hayward delivering a long key pass in the opening minute, immediately setting the tone. The defence was alert, with Liam Rich clearing danger early on and Max Carney and Ethan Webb also making crucial interventions. Despite a couple of fouls from Hayward, the midfield remained industrious, intercepting and tackling to disrupt Sevenoaks’ rhythm.
Zane Clements impressed with a slide rule pass and defensive headers, while the central defenders Liam Rich and Ethan Webb repeatedly thwarted opposition attacks with clearances and interceptions. Bernie Farley’s interceptions and key passes helped maintain Maidstone’s attacking momentum, linking play effectively between midfield and forwards.
