HEART BREAK AGAIN FOR DENDY

MARY DENDY 2 WINNINGTON 1987 3

H.T 2-1 ...

Dendy played a dress rehearsal of their up and coming cup semi against fourth placed in the league WINNINGTON 1987 last years league winners. Dendy even though bottom of the league normally give Winnington a close game and today was no different.

Dendy with players short lacked depth in the squad today but with a solid shape set up by stand in management of Adam and Cronie
i thought we should be ok.

Within 2 mins Dendy were behind. A normal sloppy start coming all too often and i feared the worse. Thankfully within five mins Dendy made it one each when Tom Vickers broke down the wing and into the box looking up and finding Ant to score. As much as Winnington tried a hard working and a good shape from Dendy kept them at bay. It was Dendy who were to take the lead with a goal of the season effort from Tom Vickers. A free kick well taken by Jack from just outside his own box went the length of the pitch into the Winnington box. Tom let it go over his shoulder before volleying it without it hitting the ground, giving their keeper no chance. Not long after Tom injured his hip and this hindered him until he went off on the 65th minute.

H.T 2-1

The second half started very much like the first with Winnington pressing hard and Dendy defending resolutely. Sadly injuries took their toll with Tom Vickers leaving the pitch at 2-1 and Danny also leaving the pitch injured. Within minutes of Danny leaving Winnington equalised and i expected a very tough last 20 mins.
This was to be proved right as a very tired and hard working team tired. A flash of hope came as Matt was put through the centre of the defence but sadly a weak effort went straight at the keeper. But it was clinical finishing from Winnington that made it 3-2. Both teams had chances but neither were able to take them and the game finished 3-2 TO WINNINGTON.

FINAL

MARY DENDY 2 WINNINGTON 3

Good points

Dendy looked better defensively with Adam and Jack playing well in front of the back four.
Tom scored a fantastic goal and if not for injury was looking sharp up front.
Their was a spirit in the team to battle and try hard which has been lacking in some games lately.
We saw the semi was winnable.

Bad points

Squad was weaker again then it can be.
Injuries hurt us today and fitness of some players showed towards
the end.We lost again.

Donkey was Adam Wake. He frustrates the life out of me by not passing and losing the ball.

Man of the Match was Scotty which was great to see. Good to see him back and even better to see how much he has improved.

Food was lovely at the eggerton chips and ham mushroom omelette
