Newcastle Benfield Tardini U10 Sunday hosted Great Park Juniors U10 White at the Newcastle United Academy on 26 April 2026, with kick-off at 3:30pm. The date had finally arrived for the Chairman's Cup final.
In a competitive 7-a-side cup match lasting 50 minutes plus added time, Benfield Tardini emerged victorious with a 3-1 scoreline.
The home side lined up in a 2-3-1 formation, deploying two central defenders, three midfielders across the left, central and right channels, and a lone striker leading the line. Ollie Lattimer guarded the goal, with James Rutherford and Oliver Moore anchoring the defence centrally. The midfield trio featured Parker Buglass on the left, Freddie Brydon in the centre, and Elias Rowland on the right, tasked with both defensive duties and supporting attacks. Up front, Alfie Simons was the focal point of the attack, expected to convert chances created by the midfield. The substitutes available were Tom Slater, Lewis Coates and Jaxson Medland.
The match began with an early tactical change as Tom Slater replaced Elias Rowland after 15 minutes, signalling a shift in the right midfield role. Just two minutes later, Oliver Moore stepped up to score a stunning direct free-kick with his right foot, giving Benfield Tardini the lead and showcasing his defensive prowess with an attacking edge.
Shortly after, at the 20-minute mark, Lewis Coates came on for striker Alfie Simons, altering the attacking dynamics. However, Great Park Juniors responded swiftly, equalising in the 22nd minute with a fluke goal from outside the box that caught the goalkeeper off guard.
Benfield Tardini quickly regained control as Tom Slater, now on the pitch, delivered a precise cross to Parker Buglass, who tapped in from close range with his left foot in the 24th minute. This goal restored the home side’s advantage and highlighted the effective wing play from the substitute right midfielder.
The substitutions continued rapidly before half-time, with Jaxson Medland replacing Parker Buglass and Alfie Simons returning to the field for Freddie Brydon. The half concluded at 25 minutes with Benfield Tardini leading 2-1.
In the second half, Freddie Brydon re-entered the fray at 35 minutes, substituting Oliver Moore in central midfield, indicating a tactical reshuffle. The home side extended their lead in the 40th minute through Jaxson Medland, who finished a slick team move with a left-footed strike from close range, assisted by a clever flick from Alfie Simons.
Shortly after, Elias Rowland returned to the right midfield position, replacing Tom Slater at 41 minutes. Further changes saw Oliver Moore come back into central defence for James Rutherford at 45 minutes, while Parker Buglass resumed his left midfield role, replacing Jaxson Medland.
Throughout the match, goalkeeper Ollie Lattimer maintained a solid presence between the sticks, while the defensive pairing adapted well to the numerous substitutions. The midfield trio’s fluidity and the striker’s movement created multiple opportunities, with the substitutes making significant impacts.
Tom Slater’s influence after coming on was particularly notable, earning him the player of the match accolade for his vital assist and overall contribution in midfield.
In the end, Newcastle Benfield Tardini U10 Sunday secured a deserved 3-1 victory over Great Park Juniors U10 White, demonstrating tactical flexibility and effective use of their squad at the Newcastle United Academy.
Every single player played an important part today. Attacking chances were created throughout while losing count of how many defensive blocks the team made.
Elias Rowland was awarded the league offical player of the match with his constant drive pushing the team on.
Managers comments from Nick and Carl
"Thought they all handled the occasion very well. The lads overcame any nerves they had especially when they equalised and kept their heads. It is a very deserving way to wrap up the magnificent cup run, so proud of all the boys for their efforts today"
