We travelled to Thirsk & Sowerby Flatts in the quarter final of the Black Sheep Brewery League Cup.

The early play was very even with defences coping well with whatever the opposition threw at them.

Robert Thompsons had the first real chance after 26mins when Stu Rose was through one on one against Police keeper Richard Schofield.  Schofield mad a great save spreading his body well to block the shot.

Three mins later Chris Pattisons left wing cross was headed against the bar by Liam Darville.

After 35mins Jason Newalls header from a corner was headed off his own goal line by Dan Mc Calmont.

Half time. 0-0

Two mins into the second half Sam Vernalls fine strike was well saved by Richard Cartman in the Thompsons goal.

Police took the lead on 53mins.  Chris Walkers left wing cross was miss controlled by a Thompsons defender and Graham Caygill nipped in to shoot into the bottom right hand corner of the net from 10 yards.

Police then took their foot off the gas and allowed Thompsons more time on the ball and they gradually had more possession.

Thompsons equalised after 67mins when Gary Shardha lost possession  on the halfway line.  Thompsons surged forward and played in Ryan Mc Kendry on the right wing who hit a fine cross shot into the far corner of the net.

Three mins later Police were in front when Sam Vernalls laid the ball off to Ben Darville whose low hard shot from 15 yards easily beat Cartman.

Thompsons hit back but the Police back three of Simon Pinkney, Sean Radford and Newall dealt with what Thompsons threw at them.

With two mins to go Cartman saved well from Liam Darville.

On 90+1 mins Cartmans goal kick was headed forward by Jason Newall over the Thompsons defence and Graham Caygill raced through and placed his shot wide of Cartman for his second goal of the game.
