16TH FEB: Church Stretton clung on to top spot in the Mercian Regional Premier League on Saturday with a narrow 2-1 win at home to Oakengates Athletic but four goals from Nathan Hodge and a brace from Daniel Gower ensured Ludlow continue to breathe down their necks as they beat Allscott 6-0. Ryan Pugh and Adam Jones scored two apiece with Darren Smith adding a fifth.
In Division 2 Childs Ercall had one of their toughest games of the season as they overcame Athletico Broseley 5-4. They now hold a ten point lead over Claverley who moved into second place after an 8-1 win at home to lowly Spalaig Britannia. There were six different scorers for Claverley with Oliver Plank netting a hat-trick. Donnington went one goal better as they hammered bottom club Denso 9-0. The games between Edgmond Rangers and Randlay and Madeley Sports Reserves and Wrockwardine Wood ended all square while Albrighton Juniors against Market Drayton Tigers was abandoned with twenty minutes left as Tigers' Joshua McIntosh suffered a suspected broken leg with his side trailing 2-0.
In the three Shropshire Junior Cup matches held over from the previous week, AFC Wellington scraped through 5-4 at home to Rock Rovers with a James Eccleston hat-trick and further goals from Tyrone Wright and Matthew Pryce, Clee Hill overpowered Highley Miners Welfare 7-1 with Adam Warren scoring three and Scott Jordan and Steve Preece scoring two each and high flying Ketley Town were too strong for Hopesgate going through to the quarter-finals with a 2-0 win.
