MEFF #12 – EDDARD’S REVENGE 3 – 4 SHEIKH MANSOUR’S PLAYTHING:

A hot-tempered encounter at MEFF #12 saw Sheikh Mansour’s Plaything take an early first half lead for the second week running, but having learnt from last week’s collapse, they this time produced some ruthless counter-attacking and resilience in defence to claim their first victory over Eddard’s Revenge, despite the loss of Spencer to a back problem with 20 minutes remaining.

Both teams could and should have scored quite a few more goals, but golden chances were frequently shanked wide from close range or smothered by the in-form keepers, while the heat reduced the pace of the game in the second half.

1-0: Aidan (good build-up play from Luke allowed him to find Aidan at the back post who rolled the ball under the diving SuBo)

2-0: Luke (a composed team move allowed Luke to turn and shoot into the bottom right corner)

HT

3-0: Brett (a quick kick from Rowan found Brett up front alone, and he muscled his way into the box before chipping over the keeper)

3-1: Fletch (smashed a shot high into the roof of the net after Pete’s drag-back from a corner)

4-1: Griffiths (another Rowan clearance found Griffiths on the right wing, who wriggled through the challenges of Kieran and Fletch before finishing from a tight angle)

4-2: Crouch (a penetrating run from Kieran drew the defenders towards him, before rolling the ball wide to the unmarked Crouch who side-footed into the top left corner)

4-3: Own Goal (Patto’s low cross was stabbed into the empty net by Aidan at the near post)

Men of the Match were SuBo, who “made lots of good saves, especially in the first half” and Luke, who “consistently held up the ball in attack and proved a nuisance all game (although Aidan, Griffiths and Brett also deserve a mention for their box-to-box running)”
