MEFF #37 – YELLOW TEAM 5 - 3 RED TEAM:

Yet another friendly encounter saw Rowan’s Yellow-bellied band of merry brothers come from behind to win a ‘pulsating’ match 5-3, as Griffin’s Red Wonders suffered tired legs and shooting inadequacies to throw away the lead. Griffiths opened the scoring when he tucked a well-worked chance under Phil after Neil had released him down the right. Patto soon struck back with a direct corner that fizzed under Rowan’s foot (he really let himself down), before a superb solo run from Sicky ended with a goal as he nutmegged Rowan (who really let himself down).

After the break, Crozier bundled home a back-post header from Griffiths’ deflected cross to level the game, before Sicky made the space to shoot with his left foot from distance, with the ball fizzing into the bottom left corner beyond a motionless Rowan (he really let himself down). Nevertheless, the Yellow team continued to push and after Kieran had bundled Neil in the box for a potential penalty, justice was done when Spence finished off Crozier’s corner at the front post (using both shins to great affect). Having let himself down on numerous occasions in goal, Rowan made amends for all his errors by sauntering up the pitch unchallenged and released a thunderbolt that Griffin (in goal) ducked under, only to see it nestle in the top bin! Ash, Phil G, Griffin and Kieran all peppered Rowan’s goal with shots, before great work from Aidan allowed Spence to release Crozier against a tired defence, and he finished coolly beyond Griffin to confirm the victory.

Later in the evening, The Verminator struck a 94th minute winner to give the mighty Arsenal a deserved 2-1 win against the Bar Codes, forcing Chibbert and his Over-rated Hotspurs to look over their shoulders and sweat a little as all their smugness began to evaporate.
