Home league match played on 26 April 2014.
Kicked off at 11:00 AM

Today we suffered our third defeat in a row having last lost in the league in November....Any ambition to chase second place fell away, with the likelihood that the boys will finish either third or more likely fourth in Div 2.   Panthers conceded within 90 seconds of the game starting, but that didn't seem to phase them. They looked a lot more focused and comfortable today, cheered on by a terrific home crowd. Panthers worked hard off the ball, but then offered great lines of support when Panthers were in possession. EHE was dangerous up front, but played with an intelligence to layoff when areas got busy. OK and MG were the defensive pairing, but both managed to step forward and play the ball out smartly from the back. Ted was sitting in front of the back two, protecting the defense from the very good ball carriers Aldershot had. EH and RD were playing on the flanks, with EH in particularly having his work cut out to deal with number 9. After a couple of near misses, some good build up and an unselfish square ball from EHE led to Panther equaliser. Hook continue to press and there were more opportunities later in the half. JF was finding EHE a few times with a slightly longer ball down the left flank.   1-1 at half time. Second half was a little disappointing given the way we'd played the first. The play got more stretched and we were losing the 50-50 challenges. We noticed that in the last match, the boys do not defend narrow enough as a team and also they do not always drift enough towards the play (whilst holding position). MG battled very well in the midfield and JR had a couple of runs (escapes!) down the wing. ON moved into the striker role, to make use of his speed.   Aldershot went 2 v 1, after some super skills from their striker to flick the ball over RE, who had no chance. Hook were still in it, but were playing longer balls to EHE. TH was showing great feet in midfield, but Aldershot were relentless.  Sadly two soft goals near the end, killed the game.....   Aldershot Reds are a very good team, with good spirit and every player has desire to win the ball. They are worthy champions and will be hard to beat in Div 1. Panthers gave them a good game, the football skills and ability level is similar, but we do not currently all play with the same level of intensity for a full match. I do not normally do this, but I have to mention EHE as Man of match, he was outstanding particularly in first half, with his positioning, desire, laying the ball off, attacking defenders and goal assist.   Coach was a bit grumpy again, slight tendancy to bark at the boys, but only because we have the footballing ability but have lapses of concentration/effort. It was lovely to see GW and JS on sidelines with Richard and Ian. I understand they were both champing at the bit to get on the pitch...!   We won the best/noisiest fans competition today... hands down....Great effort on the sidelines everyone, multiple lingo, various bribes/incentives offered  etc..   The position we finish in the Division has not and will not be of concern to me, but I'd like us to finish off the last three games successfully to lead us positively into next season.

  thanks for the fab support.
