Renegades FC welcomed Damsite FC to Bulawayo on the morning of 3 May 2026 for a highly anticipated cup tie, kicking off promptly at 10:00am. The home side produced a commanding display to secure a 4-1 victory after 90 minutes of intense football, asserting their superiority throughout the match.
Renegades lined up in a 3-2-4-1 formation, deploying three defenders at the back with Vado on the right, Manuchi centrally, and Skiri on the left. This defensive trio was tasked with maintaining solidity and providing cover for the midfield. In front of them, Bongani and Arnold operated as central midfielders, expected to control the tempo and link defence with attack. The four attacking midfielders were positioned with BJay on the right flank, Joker J on the left, and Sir H alongside Sterling occupying more central attacking roles. Leading the line was Taffy, the lone striker charged with finishing chances created by the creative midfield quartet. The substitutes named on the bench were Theo, Trust, Vitae, Mjida v, and Newman's Ford, ready to influence the game as required.
From the outset, Renegades showed intent as Taffy wasted no time in testing the opposition goalkeeper with an early attempt inside the first minute. Arnold’s vision was evident soon after, delivering a precise slide rule pass in the fourth minute that carved open a chance for the forwards. However, a mistimed run by Taffy saw him correctly flagged offside in the ninth minute, halting an early promising attack.
Joker J came close to breaking the deadlock with a shot on goal in the 17th minute, signalling Renegades’ growing dominance. The breakthrough arrived in the 25th minute when Joker J’s clever delivery inside the box found Taffy, who calmly slotted home with his right foot from close range. Just seven minutes later, Sterling capitalised on a defensive error by Damsite FC to double the lead, again finishing with his right foot from close quarters.
Damsite FC’s frustration was evident when one of their players received a yellow card in the 34th minute. Moments later, Manuchi’s crucial interception prevented a clear chance, showcasing the defensive resilience of Renegades. The first half concluded with the home side firmly in control at 2-0.
The second half saw Damsite FC pull a goal back in the 70th minute, benefiting from a defensive mistake by Renegades, with the ball dispatched into the net using the right foot. However, Renegades responded swiftly; in the 75th minute, BJay converted a close-range tap-in following an assist from the right flank, restoring a two-goal cushion.
Tactical changes began in the closing stages with Theo replacing Sir H in the 78th minute, followed by Trust coming on for Joker J three minutes later. Further substitutions included Vitae and Mjida v coming on for Bongani and Skiri respectively in the 84th minute, and Newman's Ford replacing Sterling in the 86th minute, injecting fresh legs into the side.
In stoppage time, BJay sealed the emphatic win with a solo goal, expertly finishing with his left foot from close range after a fine assist from Trust. This late strike ensured a comprehensive 4-1 victory for Renegades FC, who controlled the match from start to finish and demonstrated clinical finishing alongside solid defensive work.
Renegades FC’s tactical setup and player performances combined effectively to deliver a dominant cup win on home soil, leaving Damsite FC with plenty to ponder ahead.
