THRILLED stand-in keeper and newly-appointed manager Danny Cousins secured his first win at the helm after Sarum Youth Seniors dispatched ten-man Shrewton United 3-2 in an eventful Wiltshire Premier League derby.

Seniors were jumping for joy at the full time whistle as they recorded their third win of the campaign, their first set of three points since September 6.

An early sending off at The Recreation Ground left the hosts with a job on their hands. Sarum made the extra man count by drawing first blood after the half hour mark when a Mikey Joy cross deflected off a defender and trickled its way over the line.

he former Shrewton man was at the thick of things again, tapping home from close range to double the visitors’ lead eight minutes before the interval.

After the resumption, Joy got a second as Sarum started to pull away from the hosts but shortly after Shrewton came back fighting once Craig Lewis converted from the spot.

And a grandstand finale was set up after a Shrewton corner was turned into the goal by keeper Cousins but there were no further lapses in concentration as Sarum held onto the points.

Player/manager Cousins said: “I am very pleased with how the lads have adapted to a new style of play and after a strong performance last week I could not be happier with how the team have come away from home and got the three points against a strong Shrewton side.

"I am overjoyed that the pressure didn't get to the team and our striker Mikey Joy stepped up to the plate against his former team. Now we just have to keep building from here.”
