Away league match played on 23 April 2011.
Kicked off at 12:00 AM

The penultimate league game of the season the long awaited return against Whitton was played on a very hot day on a pitch that would make controlling the ball difficult and would be about spirit and desire for the game.

The home team started brightly and took the game to the Sax lads but the lads at the back worked hard and they looked comfortable and didn't look like they where going to concede Jack was well up for this one and keen to make up for his mistake last week. The game had been pretty much end to end when a Whitton attack was headed away by Sam and Ed looked well on side to me but the flag went up and a free kick was given to the home team. Whitton kept coming at the lads and in the 14th minute they had a great chance to open the scoring but 2 good saves form Jack and a goal line clearance from Tom kept the scores level.

The home team were forcing the play and getting lots of corners but the lads had it under control and defended them all well. On 35 Sax took the lead after some good play in midfield and a great through ball from Ben went through to Rossi and he got the slightest of touches to put it past the keeper and to ease a bit of the pressure.

Half time Whitton 0 – 1 Sax

Kris came on to replace Luke at left back and the rest of the team stayed as it was after a half time that seemed to last for ever the game got away again. About 5 minutes in to the half a long ball came through to Sam and he cleared it straight at the dugout the gaffer showed great reactions to make the save (I can see where Jack gets it form now). The home team resorted to long shots and mostly we were happy with this but getting a bit nervous as the half went on. We had a chance to double our lead but Ed's shot was well saved by the keeper and from that Whitton went straight up the other end and a combination of Sam and Jack did enough to put the striker off and his shot went over the bar.

Sax got a free kick about 20 yards out and the keeper set his wall but form where we were you could see he had left a gap, Aaron saw the gap and managed to curl his shot round the keeper and a dummy form John jumping over the ball fooled the keeper and Sax doubled their lead. Connor had a good chance with a header that looked like it was going in but the keeper somehow managed to get a hand to it.

Overall it wasn't a classic form the lads but a hard fought win that shows the character and desire in the lads, this was a must win game for the boys and they came through the game with that pressure and to keep us in touch for a possible double.

We move on next week to a cup final with all the pressure that brings but the lads are more than capable of dealing with that and putting on a performance

Well done lads
