Away league match played on 11 January 2014.
Kicked off at 2:00 PM

The Accies travelled to the worst pitch with the worst facilities in the division with the scent of goals still fresh in their nostrils from the previous weeks drubbing of Denaby.

Jamie was finding Dan in plenty of space wide right and Stan down the left and they put in a series of crosses that put Whiston on the back foot immediately. A deep cross from Dan was touched behind for a corner by the keeper and Dan whipped the ball in from the bottom side for Big Si to meet it powerfully with a towering header to make it 1-0 (Swifty has claimed it off his shoulder – there’s only one way to settle this – fiiiiiiiiight!).

Just minutes later and it was 2-0. Jamie collected the ball in the centre of the park and picked out Swifty with a terrific through ball; the goal machine took a touch then smashed it high into the roof of the net after committing the keeper for a great finish. Almost straight from the restart the home side got back in it though. The ball bobbled around just outside the box but their midfielder was given too much time to strike a shot toward goal with Godders slipping on the treacherous surface and the ball sailing high into the net. The game evened out temporarily without either side creating much for ten minutes or so. The away side had one or two extremely odd individuals, not least the number 6 who was constantly chelping about how average the Accies were whilst electing to try and control the ball on the ground with his head. Their number 8 also went into the book after a vicious swipe at Stan after a stiff challenge.

It wouldn’t put the Accies off though and it was soon 3-1. Stan and Matt G combined superbly down the inside left channel with Matt sending Stan through with a delightfully deft flick, Stan squared it for Alex who drove his left foot shot across the keeper and into the far bottom corner. The home side visibly deflated which cued more chelping from number 6 with number 11 out wide also getting in on the act. The contest was over though when Alex looped a ball up in the air after good work again from Stan and their defender under pressure from Swifty nodded it into his own net. The Accies were looking comfortable now with Matt, Si and Jamie totally dominating the midfield and the defence looking solid and snuffing out any hopeful long balls which is all the home side could muster. Before half time it was 5 goals for the Accies as Dan pounced on a loose ball after Alex had drawn a point blank save from the keeper and passed the ball into the bottom corner with his left foot.

Half time Whiston 1 – 5 Accies

The second half got underway and the game was immediately looking stretched for Whiston. They managed to repel a couple of waves of attack but more goals were certainly coming. Dan and Stan were getting some very dangerous balls into the box and it was Dan who helped Alex to another goal when he poked Dan’s cross-shot into the top corner with his right boot to make it 6 goals. Ryan and Brian came on at respective full back positions for Hodgy and Stan and the action never let up. Jamie played Dan down the right into acres of space yet again and Dan megged his man right in the corner, advanced into the box and picked out Alex at the back post with a left foot cross for Alex to complete his second classical hat-trick in 2 weeks.

Their number 6 was apoplectic with rage by now and started kicking people and moaning more. He brought Dan down just outside the box and his cross came out to Jamie on the edge of the box after a bit of head tennis and his sweet volley flew agonisingly wide of the upright. Matt G and Brian worked the ball down the left and a forward pass to Swifty was expertly held up and left for the advancing Brian to smack a RIGHT FOOT finish into the top corner. Reedy was brought down from behind whilst chasing a ball over the top and number 6 tried to claim the foul against him; a minute later and man mountain Alex Bissett shielded the ball from him and he completely lost it, pretending to aim a punch and luckily escaping without a caution, clearly quailing when Alex didn’t bat an eyelid.

Just before the end and Dan and Jamie worked a short corner with Dan megging his man and being clearly held back; the referee admitting that he would have given a penalty if it had been 1-1 (??). There was time for Swifty to complete his hat-trick as Stan played a ball into the box which caused a scramble with Swifty poking the ball over the line to wrap up another comprehensive win against poor opposition. The Accies though are scoring at will and goal difference could be very important come the end of the season.
