MATCH REPORT for SUNDAY 27th May 2012

Babylon F C      3       St Michaels F C    2

With the League Title already in safe hands from the earlier game, changes were made with Max Knott coming in for Harry Graham, Lewis Butcher replacing James Mckerrell, Dan Tarrant replacing Danny Baptiste and Anthony Baptiste replacing Arran Amer. Various positional changes were also made and the formation was changed to a more attacking 4-4-2.

This game was not as fluid as the first and St Michaels struggled to get their passing game going and with the half petering out conceded a bad goal on 27 minutes and another bad goal on the stroke of half time. At the break Dan Regan replaced Arran Amer and Danny Baptiste replaced his brother Ben Baptiste.

Within minutes of the start of the 2nd half Adam Fahy scored another fine goal to give St Michaels hope. Unfortunately on 39 minutes another bad mistake lead to Babylon increasing their led to 3-1. Two minutes later James Mckerrell replaced Anthony Baptiste. With 14 minutes to go good work by Danny Baptiste and Ronnie Mewes lead to Arran Amer reducing the lead. Although St Michaels pressed for the equaliser, a combination of good defensive play from Babylon and poor finishing from St Michaels meant that the final score was 3-2 to Babylon.

A poor end to a great day with complacency meaning that St Michaels finished their season with a narrow defeat.  Still a season to be proud of with 20 games played, 17 wins, 2 defeats and 1 draw totalling 52 points meaning a comfortable buffer at the top of Division 2. Promotion next year means that we will have to improve on this years performance, which I’m positive we can do.

No special mentions this week with the possible exception of one of the personal awards already being won by Adam Fahy who is the team’s Top Goalscorer, just pipping Ronnie Mewes in the final 30 minutes of the last game of the season.
