A F C Heathside   0      St Michaels F C   2

For the second week running St Michaels faced a strong and no nonsense A F C Heathside team who were determined to reverse last weeks result. The game was littered with fouls but was well controlled by the Referee, Mr Ron Albert.

St Michaels started brightly on a very bobbly pitch which made controlling the ball much more difficult. After only 4 minutes Ronnis Mewse had a good effort on goal which narrowly missed. On 14 minutes St Michaeks opened the scoring with a super goal from Adam Fahy. Playing in an unfamiliar Left back position he dribbled past numerous Heathside players and when Ben Baptiste flicked on Adam was in position to ute a wonderful volley into the top of the net. Certainly a candidate for “Goal of the Season”. St Michaels had a few half chances in the remainder of the half but there was no further scoring and St Michaels went in with a well deserved 1 goal lead.

H T : 0 - 1 to St Michaels F C.

The fierce tackling had taken its toll on St Michaels and at half time James Mckerrell replaced Sam Meade with Connor Reardon taking over as Captain.

The 2nd half continued as the 1st with St Michaels controlling the game but we were always wary as Heathside looked dangerous on the break. St Michael’s worries were eased though when after 67 minutes a corner from Adam Fahy was met with a fine header from Jack Meade to give St Michaels a 2 goal lead.

Now with a 2 goal cushion Mo Abarak came on to replace Aaron Hughes and immediately showed some good control and looked likely to score on more than one occasion. With 11 minutes to go St Michaels made their final substitution with Lewis Butcher replacing Dan Regan to make his debut having secured a release from Sainsburys. The last real attempt on goal came with just 2 minutes to go when Mo Abarak was unlucky with a long range effort.

An excellent battling performance from St Michaels with all of the players giving their all on a very awkward pitch. Special mentions this week go to Connor Reardon with a faultless display in the Centre of Defence, Jack Meade with his usual tireless display, rapidly becoming the team’s “Mr Versatile” and Arran Amer who fought for every ball and had one of his best games this year. However, “Man of the Match” for the 2nd time this season goes to Ben Baptiste. Ben never knows when he is beaten and will, and did, on many occasions put his body on the line for the team.
