STARLANDS 0 - WARWICK ANGELS 1 (H) 28/4/12

I really am getting fed up - with constantly reporting how we should of got something from the game.

This week - Holly Starlands ever reliant goalkeeper was missing - and with practice rained off Starlands were forced to play without a recognised goalkeeper.

Martha bravely stepped into the breach at the last minute.

Samantha was made Captain - and having last Captained Starlands to their first and last win against Erdington - The Omens were good!

Upfront Georgia was looking for a goal - She has played some terrific games in recent weeks and narrowly missed out.

Laurice and Sinead was looking to protect Martha from any Warwick attack.

Starlands kicked off - and early signs were very good. Starlands took the game to ANGELS and really put them under some pressure. Starlands were stringing some passes together - and were unlucky not to score.

Snap shots from Samantha went wide , Georgia took some free kicks into the box putting Angels on the back foot.Another one of her shots just went wide.

Everytime Angels broke free, Starlands were quick to defend and broke up the attacks and were right back at Angels.

Martha made a good early save from a corner claiming the ball high above her head. Her confidence was up - so much so she even came out of her box and picked up the ball! Free kick to Angels went towards goal, but Martha was quick to go down and trapped the ball on the goal line. Phew! 0-0.

Sinead started taking the goal kicks and was getting some good distance - one kick went through to Samantha but she was guilty of panicking her shot wide.

Hannah also bustled her way through and got a shot away.

A one touch pass from midfield dynamo Samantha found Georgia who managed to work free - but could not quite find the net.

The half finished 0-0 - but, Starlands should have been 3-0 up. The writing was on the wall, If you dont take your chances...it'll come back to haunt you!

Substitutions were made early in the second half. Grace and Jade came on for Alex and Sinead.

Grace was having a good game wide on the flank - having replaced the ever busy Alex.

Jade pushed up front - and whilst still learning her positional sense, chased a few balls and was unlucky with one shot.

You know what I'm going to say next...Angels broke and the Big No.14 hustled and bustled and barged her way through 4 or 5 Starland tackles. This was the first time I have ever seen Starlands allow a player to break right through the middle of their team.Everytime the ball ran towards the Starlands goal - and Richelle managed to poke the ball in the corner past Martha. Starlands found themselves 1-0 down!?....How???

Starlands tried their best to come back - but, for a few minutes their confidence was knocked for six! But, Starlands never give up - and Georgia was soon putting corner after corner into the box. The Angels keeper made some good saves from Samantha ,Alex and Georgia.

Samantha hit the post, and one effort from Georgia dipped narrowly over the banana shaped bar! It was too painful to watch....Starlands never get any luck! and Angels were looking down on Warwick that's for sure! Grace had to come off with a reoccurence of her shoulder injury.

Regardless of Starlands efforts - they could just not get the ball in the net. Georgia was holding the ball up well, and going on some mazy runs - just tackled before she could release a pass or shoot.

There was so much to be proud of today. No way did the girls deserve to lose - This was in truth a game Starlands SHOULD have won quite comfortably.Angels went back to Warwickshire having managed two lucky 1-0 wins against the girls....This will not happen next season!!!

Girl of The Game - went to Martha who bravely volunteered to play in goal and gave a terrific display...Well done...and thank you for  the supporters warning her to turn around from playing with the goal netting!  ;) or not pick up the ball out of the box!

Congratulations to Becky on driving to her first football game solo!!! Next week can the supporters stay to give her car a push!!!! and Thank you to Helen & Mark for helping to clear up afterwards.

REDDITCH AWAY NEXT WEEK.
