The SSAFC picked up a tough fought victory this Saturday morning winning 2-1 against a very good side in Burton in what was a game that could have swung either way and picked up their 5th win on the bounce in what was a quite mild October morning

The SSAFC stuck with the lads who won at Hampton the week before with Jeorge Wedge coming in for the missing Lewis Collins & Sam Stephenson got his debut in goal. The game started quite sluggish with the ball being in midfield for large spells of the game and the first real chance fell to Bell for the SSAFC but his left footed effort flew well over the bar!

Burton started to get back into the game and had some potshots which didnt trouble Stephenson. Dunn then had good work in the middle and his effort was dragged wide. Quick thinking from Carroll at a corner found Teale who's shot evaded everyone and went wide of the far post. It was a game of few chances in the first half but the goal came halfway through the half when good play from the SSAFC midfield found Chesworth on the left and his cross found Teale who's touch and finish was top class and made it 1-0!

The SSAFC then nearly got a second when the ball wasnt cleared from a corner and Bell found Wedge who's effort rocketed just wide of the post! Burton had been knocking on the door but had no luck until 10 minutes before H/T when a free kick wasnt cleared properly and the ball went back in to an unmarked player who headed into the ground and into the roof of the net to draw them level. The SSAFC then suffered a bit and Burton had some good chances which werent taken. The game carried on as a midfield battle until H/T.

The second half started with the midfield battle again and the game being played at a slow pace with both teams trying to create chances but nothing really to test both goalkeepers! Teale had the first chance of the half when he done well holding the ball up and his lob just narrowly beat the bar! Jackson then had good work on the byline and cut inside and unleashed a shot which went over. Burton tried to create chances but it seemed the final ball just wasnt there with some good positions being taken!

The SSAFC then got what proved to be the winner when Stuart Rowe crossed in from the right and found an unmarked Jackson who whacked it into the 6 yard box, Pinball in the 6 yard box when the Burton defender accidently smacked the ball into his fellow player and the ball fell kindly for Bell who smashed it goalwards and into the net despite the keepers best efforts to make it 2-1.

The SSAFC looked to take advantage and took the game to Burton with Teale having an effort saved & Dunn having a shot go wide but after the goal it turned into the midfield battle it had been for large spells of the game. Burton then pushed on in the last 10 minutes with Stephenson making a last ditch save going low and getting a save in. Burton tried to use their height to their advantage and from a long throw, a header hit the post and went out to the relief, Burton then hit the post when poor marking from a corner allowed a free header which hit the far post and went away.

The SSAFC had to dig in and nearly hit on the counter with Bell firing wide from 20 yards. The SSAFC had to defend the last few minutes and did so with some last ditch defending. The final whistle went and the SSAFC knew they won a battle today against a good Burton side!
