Stronstad Utd vs FC Fenner Game 2

Big Match Facts:-

After last weeks controversial defeat to FC Phoenix and mid week wins for J.T.C Rovers and FC Phoenix, Stronstad had slipped to 3rd place in the league. 6 Points from both games could move Stronstad up to 2nd in the league with 1 game to play. FC Fenner are currently bottom of the league with 9 points from their 14 games. Last time Stronstad played at Langstone Sailing Club was their 3-2 extra time defeat against AFC Victory.

  First Half Action

Stronstad kicked off again playing against a strong wind in the first half at Langstone Sailing Club but the game was a different story from the first match we had finished just 5 minutes earlier with FC Fenner doing all the pressing in the opening exchanges of the match. With the game only minutes old Jorge Morrion-Cooke had to replaced Jon Way who went down with no one around him and was forced off injured.

With Stronstad barely out of their own half they could have taken the lead against the run of play. Dan Moore had got the better of his marker and then advanced into the FC Fenner box where his centre found Steve Beech but his weak effort was easily saved by the FC Fenner goalkeeper.

At the other end Stronstad then shot themselves in the foot and conceded a free kick after Jorge Morrison-Cooke fouled the FC Fenner left winger when he was going no where. From the resulting free kick the ball was played to the far post where the usually reliable Ian Privett came to get the ball but dropped it and the FC Fenner player was able to turned the ball home at the far post to make the score 1-0.

This goal then raised the FC Fenner team as they looked to use the wind to their advantage with the Stronstad midfield looking out of position it was no surprise that FC Fenner got a second goal.

The big FC Fenner striker who scored the first goal collected a ball deep in Stronstad’s half and he turned and headed towards goal where he brushed off the tackle of a Stronstad player before blasting the ball past Ian Privett into the bottom corner to make the score 2-0.

With time running out Stronstad should have pulled a goal back but as a Stronstad player advanced into the FC Fenner box his low cross was parried by the FC Fenner keeper to James Clarke who came steaming in but some how managed to hit the bar from close range and the ball went over.

Half Time:- Stronstad 0 FC Fenner 2

The second half was a different story as Stronstad went all guns blazing looking to turn defeat into victory but they could not break down a stubborn FC Fenner defence who were clearing up all the long balls that Stronstad could throw at them. At the other end Stronstad were looking a bit shaky with miss-placed passing contributing to there down fall. With the game being a scrappy affair some how Stronstad did manage to get a goal back. Steve Beech had the ball then floated the ball into the FC Fenner box where James Clarke collected the ball before delivering a low cross to Dan Moore who was 6 yards out where he buried the chance into the top of the FC Fenner net to give Stronstad a lifeline.

Stronstad then almost had a second goal as a long ball out to the wing saw Robert Pearson get the ball and from almost the touch line he curled an effort into the FC Fenner box but he got a bit too much curl and the ball hit the outside of the far post and out for a goal kick.

With Stronstad throwing men forward looking for the equaliser they were then caught with a sucker punch as a long ball over the top of the Stronstad defence saw the FC Fenner player lift the ball over Ian Privett and the ball bounced into the net to make the score 3-1.

Stronstad still kept pushing men forward and they almost had a goal back as Gareth Spicer came up from centre back and managed to jinx his way into the penalty area but he lifted his effort over the bar.

With time running out and the news filtering through that Icomm FC had won both their double banker matches, Stronstad managed to pull a goal back with Dan Moore scoring his second goal. Robert Pearson collected the ball and his pass saw Dan Moore collect the ball before firing past the FC Fenner goalkeeper to make it a nervous 5 minutes for FC Fenner.

With time running out Stronstad had one more chance to score as they sent everyone forward including goal keeper Ian Privett for a corner and from the corner the ball bounced around but found hits way to Gareth Spicer who teed Robert Pearson for a cross but his poor cross went out for a goal kick.
