Roberts Takes The Sting Out Of The Hornets Tail

The sh!%$t team to have ever had the nerve to grace the same turf with the sublime Reigate Hornets you heard that right the sh!%$t.

The hornets had the kick off and got the game underway just after 10:15am and were immediately put under pressure by the underdogs of the fixture and that persistence paid of as early as the sixth minute when Roberts made an expertly timed run to find himself one on one with the keeper his first shot was unfortunate to come back off the keeper but Roberts had continued his run and the returning ball struck the in form forward and all the keeper could do was watch the ball nestle neatly in the back of his net 0-1. Ten minutes later hornets equalised through a scrappy goal that pin-balled around several players before they could get a shot off when they did the ball ended up in the net but it was a messy goal, from the side lines it looked as if we had dropped our heads and maybe our first goal was just an unfortunate blip for the hornets but T Gat hadn't read the script and one minute after the equalizer Stoner collected the ball on the left wing took it past the wing back and slotted the ball to the waiting Roberts who duly slotted the ball past the keeper from 7 yards 1-2.

T Gat continued to trouble the Hornets defence with some good pressing movement, excellent running from the two front men, strong direction from defence and some nice touches in midfield particularly from Stoner and it wasn't long before another opportunity arose when on 20mins Roberts rose like a cake in a bakery and nodded the ball goalwards only to see it fly over the crossbar it was close and the Hornets were clearly rattled as they started to argue amongst themselves.

Hornets pulled level with a good goal coming from a run down the right flank and a cross that was pulled back to the edge of the area and waiting forward met the ball with a furious half volley that found its way to the back of the goal 2-2. Two minutes later Hornets went ahead with another scrappy goal and that was how  the first half ended 3-2.

Whatever the manager said at half time it seemed to work with visiting side heading straight for the opponants box and after some neat trickery by Garner the defence became rash and brought him down although the fall would have made Tom Daley jealous. Who would take the penalty well there was only one person waiting to complete his hat trick and Roberts did just that coolly slotting home just two minutes into the second half 3-3. T Gat were now level and they showed no desire of going behind again, and again pressured the home side and on 55mins Poplett won a free kick from about 22yards grabbing the ball himself Poplett placed the ball down and grinning like a chessire cat he looked over to the spectators they knew he had only one thing on his mind the referee blew the whistle had he drove the ball goalwards and via a deflection the ball flew past the flailing keeper 3-4. On 60mins T Gat used their first sub it was Garner making way for Constable who was making his début for the team. Shortly after the substitution Roberts went on another run and flashed the ball across the keeper only to see it go inches wide T Gat were up for it now and on 67mins they got another free kick this time on the left wing Poplett was to take this one too but before the kick was taken it was time for the long awaited first appearance of T Gats Talismanic forward Jones who entered the field to rapturous applause. Poplett again drove the ball towards the goal and the debutant constable got a head to it and watched as the ball found its way past the keeper and in to the back of the net 3-5.

The remaining 20mins was a test of T Gats resolve as the Hornets threw everything at them including insults (see articles first paragraph) they were fortunate on one of their many corners to pull one back but T Gat were just too strong and i'm not sure if it was the desire to get to the next round or sheer desperation not to play another 30mins but the Hornets could not get past a strong defensive display in the final 10mins.

T Gat were through they had put 5 goals past a team in a higher divsion. Not bad for the sh!%$t team to have steped onto the priory's hallowed turf.

Well done boys you did the team proud!!!
