On 7 March 2026, Tenisons III welcomed Old Wilsonians 5th to Archbishop Tenison's School Sports Ground for a league home match kicking off at 1:30pm. The 11-a-side contest ended emphatically in favour of Tenisons III, who ran out 6-2 winners after a commanding display over 90 minutes plus injury time, with referee Ryan Larkin officiating.
Tenisons III lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, deploying Bob Tullet in goal behind a back four of George Toner at right back, central defenders Chris Stafford and Jeremy Barton, and Sean McCoy at left back. The double pivot in central midfield featured Val Sani alongside George Woodger, tasked with both shielding the defence and linking play. Ahead of them, the attacking midfield trio consisted of Lucas Alonso on the right, Luke Hinds centrally as the attacking midfielder, and Sam Gleeson on the left, all supporting lone striker Sahr Gbembo. The substitutes bench included Dre Robinson, Matthew Sunday, and Christian Hall.
The match burst into life in the 23rd minute when Tenisons III took the lead. Sam Gleeson’s precise delivery found Sahr Gbembo, who finished clinically to open the scoring. Just seven minutes later, the home side made a double substitution at the half-hour mark, with Dre Robinson replacing George Woodger and Matthew Sunday coming on for Lucas Alonso. This tactical switch paid immediate dividends as Sunday scored his first goal of the game in the 32nd minute, converting an assist from the departing Alonso.
Shortly after, in the 35th minute, George Woodger returned to the pitch, replacing left back Sean McCoy, signalling a reshuffle in the defensive line. Old Wilsonians 5th pulled one back in the 41st minute, reducing the deficit and injecting some urgency into the contest. However, Tenisons III’s defensive stability was soon tested when George Toner was forced off injured in the 42nd minute, with Lucas Alonso coming back onto the wing with Gleeson stepping back into his usual right-back position.
The first half concluded with Tenisons III holding a 2-1 advantage, setting the stage for a thrilling second period. Early in the second half, Lucas Alonso made a significant impact, scoring in the 51st minute after a well-timed assist from George Woodger’s throw-in. Alonso’s influence continued as he doubled his tally in the 61st minute, this time assisted by Luke Hinds, extending the lead to 4-1.
Tenisons III maintained their momentum, with Matthew Sunday netting his second goal in the 70th minute, assisted by Luke Hinds once again, pushing the scoreline to a commanding 5-1. The home side made another substitution in the 79th minute, with Christian Hall replacing striker Sahr Gbembo. Despite this change, Old Wilsonians 5th managed to find the net again in the same minute, narrowing the gap to 5-2.
Shortly after, in the 81st minute, George Toner returned to the field, replacing left winger Sam Gleeson, who had been influential earlier in the match. Tenisons III sealed their dominant performance in the 85th minute when Luke Hinds scored an outrageous half-volley from 25 yards assisted by Matthew Sunday, rounding off a comprehensive 6-2 victory.
Tenisons III’s tactical flexibility and clinical finishing proved decisive, with key contributions from their attacking midfielders and substitutes alike. The home side’s ability to adapt to injury setbacks and maintain attacking intensity ensured a memorable afternoon at Archbishop Tenison's School Sports Ground.
