On the morning of 8 March 2026, The Fountain FC faced off against Blaydon The Huntsman FC at Winlaton Vulcan RFC in a 10:30am kick-off. The match was overseen by referee Paul Brewis, whose performance was solid throughout the game, with an attendance of 20 spectators witnessing the contest.

The Fountain FC lined up in a 4-2-1-3 formation, a setup designed to balance defensive solidity with attacking flair. After last week's performance, Damo stepped back into goal. The back four comprised of Jonny Thirlaway and Brandon Fitzgerald on the sides, with Dan Cave and captain Lewis Sullivan working as the centre defensive pair. They were supported by two central midfielders, the Currie brothers, Joe and Lewis, tasked with shielding the defence and linking play. Ahead of them, the central attacking midfielder was named as Ryan Hardy, looking to create opportunities, feeding the three forwards, Rowan Latimer, Owen Hardy, and Scott Thompson. Sat on the bench were Andy Gowland, Ben Walton and Callum Collins.

The first half unfolded with Blaydon The Huntsman FC asserting their dominance early on, controlling possession and pressing high. Despite The Fountain FC’s efforts to maintain structure in their 4-2-1-3, they struggled to contain the home sides attacking threat. The Huntsman would open the scoring with a soft free kick being awarded to the home side, swung into the back stick, headered across the face of goal and put away to make it 1-0.

The second goal wouldn't be too long after, as a cross was met by a Huntsman attacker at the back post, who takes it past Damo in goal and slots it home in quite a flukey goal. At the 20th minute mark, Captain Lewis Sullivan was forced off the pitch due to injury, replaced by Andy Gowland, who moved into the left back position. The half concluded at the 45-minute mark with Blaydon The Huntsman FC firmly in the lead, but the Fountain were contesting and creating chances to bring the game back, but failed to capitalise on any of them.

The second half saw Blaydon The Huntsman FC convert their third goal almost immediately, when an unmarked man converts a corner to widen the margin between the two sides.

Fountain would take control of the game once again, creating chances and having the better of the ball, but still could not seem to score any goals. Ben Walton would be the second substitution, coming on in place of Owen Hardy in left wing.

Shortly after, we would see the return of Lewis Sullivan to the pitch, in place of Scott Thompson. The game continued and other than some pretty close chances by Ben and Lewis, the Fountain never really looked like scoring.

In the last minute of the game, the Fountain were dealt the final blow as the Huntsman scored a fourth from a lapse in defence, lobbing Damo in goal to seal the win.

Jonny Thirlaway was named man of the match, a testament to his standout performance amid a challenging fixture for The Fountain FC, though it was Rowan Latimer's performance that shun through on this day. Overall, The Fountain FC will need to regroup and reassess following this heavy defeat, while Blaydon The Huntsman FC can take confidence from a dominant display on the road.
