The Victory Club 0 - 5 Guide Post

The Victory returned to the Fulwell Mill Arena on Sunday to see their pitch had been extended by 7 yards to fit in with F.A regulations.

It seemed as the Victory had lost their bearings as they were breached within the first 10 mins, the Victory had a throw in deep in Guide Post teritory but lost possesion and were made to pay as a long ball beat the usually reliable Davison and the Guide Post forward ran on took the ball around Swan and tapped it into the unguarded net. Again the Victory were on the back foot and were two down when Scott Hunter unfortunately flicked the ball into his own net beyond Swan but how quite the ball ended up in the net was a mystery as four Victory player's were standing there alone but still managed to concede - it  just proves the dreadful season they are having up to now!

It was three before long as the Guide Post broke down the left cut and fired a shot which beat Swan when it shouldn't have (he maybe wants to change those gloves because the ball has been like a bar of soap for him this season!). Just before half time the Victory spurred into life a long throw by Rodgers was flicked on by Davison to the debutant Rob Timm and his right foot half volley produced an excellent save from the keeper. Right on half time a mellay broke out as Anthony Collins was at his robust self again as he fairly won the ball but in the process injured "Sharkey" much to the disgust of the Post's captain who charged up to Collins but the situation was quickly difused by other players and the ref.

Half Time

The Victory had a harsh discussion at Half Time and returned trying to play simple football and it almost paid off as Peter Harding forced a decent save out of the Keeper who tipped it over the bar.

The Victory were soon four down as Mark Dryden lost his man and the header slipped through Swan's grasp at his near post it is quite clear he is well out form at the moment.

The Victory boss Rodgers tried to make a substitution but Lee Skelland had no kit so the Victory had to play with ten men whilst Ben Stores stripped down to his underwear and Skelland got dressed much to the amusement of the Visitors!

The Victory fell five behind when the Guide Post sub ran past half the Victory team took aim only to see his shot saved by Swan but the re-bound fall straight to one of his teammates who rammed the ball home from six yards.

The game petered out with the Victory hardly being able to string a pass together and the Guide Post taking their foot off the gas. At the moment the Victory seem to be doing all the basics wrong which is costing them. They know they will have to 10 times better when they take on rivals New Derby in the Solex Manufacturing Cup and both Rodgers and the players know there is more to play for than a place in the second round!
