Guide Post 9 - 0 The Victory Club

The Victory Club's season continued to reach new lows this sunday as they were thrashed by nine goals to nil against Guide Post.

Before the game even started manager Steve Jackson had problems, he only had eleven players to pick from including himself and not enough of the change yellow kits so Graham Lamb unfortunately had to wear the Goalkeeping shirt (even though he was outfield) and stand in goalkeeper Rodgers had to wear a grey t-shirt!

Despite all of this the Victory kicked off and were immediately under pressure testing Rodgers twice within the first five minutes. The Victory finally got a touch of the ball and Ryan Fairweather who was playing at right back beat three people before whipping the ball in unfortunately for the Vics there was no one to capitalise upon the opportunity and like the rest of the season they were made to pay.

The Victory had done enough to force a corner, but it was from this that they conceded! The Corner was well defended and lofted down field the Post Attacker was then to strong for Fairweather rounded the keeper and tapped the ball into the net. Just when the Victory needed to settle they were two behind Mark Dryden taking the Guide Post player out cynically when there was no real need to. The penalty was despatched by the Guide Post Goalkeeper (although many of the Victory players felt this was slightly disrespectful as the score was only one nil at the time!) but never mind two nil. The third was close in following a mix of poor goalkeeping and sunlight caused this one from around 25 yards the ball was chipped over the stranded keeper who had lost his bearings.

The Guide Post were all over the Victory and the fourth followed, a tap in from close range with not a defender in sight. Rodgers then tipped over a free kick but from the resulting corner a Guide Posr defender had a free header and put it straight into the back of the net 5-0. With the Victory looking for half time a sixth was scored again the defence was all at sea as the Guide Post who were three on one with the keeper rammed the ball into the net and just before half time the seventh was scored another one on one chance side footed cooly into the back of the net.

Half Time

With nothing left but pride to play for after a dreadful first half display the Victory changed personel around with no Subs, the 2nd half team was gk- Rob Timm (replacing Rodgers) rb- Alex Rodgers lb- Peter Harding cb's- Greg Davison & Graham Lamb rm- Ryan Fairweather lm- Scott Hunter cm's- Anthony Collins & Steve Jackson, fw's - Ben Stores & Mark Dryden.

The second half was a none affair really with the Guide Post continuing to put pressure upon the Victory but at least they were defending better. Rob Timm pulled off a decent double save firstly saving with his legs then following up to tip the ball over the bar.

The Victory then conceded another penalty although very dubious through Greg Davison. The penalty was despatched for 8-0. The Victory then had a couple of efforts through Peter Harding and then Mark Dryden but both went straight into the goalkeeper's arms.

The Victory conceded a ninth when Rodgers lost possesion of the ball on the halfway line and despite a good save by Timm the rebound was tapped in beyond the retreating defenders.

At the sounding of the full time whistle the Victory Club had hit a new low! They must start playing soon or they'll be relegated by easter. The next game is a home against River Bar at Fulwell Mill.
