Home league match played on 23 March 2014.
Kicked off at 12:00 PM

Conditions were a bit chillier and fairly windy for today’s game where the Wolves won the toss and kicked off up hill.

All the early pressure came from the Wolves; Dylan had a shot go just wide in the first minute and then Ollie had a shot saved from a good cross by Dylan. Tom almost scored from a corner with a long range strike but again it went just wide.

The Eagles were defending in numbers, allowing the Wolves to dominate in midfield however on a number of occasions we were guilty of holding on to the ball too long when quick passes were needed to break the Eagles down. When we did pass quickly we created some decent chances; Ollie had a shot blocked from a super Jacob cross and then Dylan had another chance go wide from a great move involving William and Ollie.

The Eagles did manage to get forward a couple of times but William and Nathan covered well forcing long range efforts which Cole dealt with easily.

The Wolves kept pressing forward and Dylan and Ollie had a couple of chances saved. With two minutes left of the half, Ollie passed quickly to Nathan who broke up the right wing and put in a great cross to Jacob whose first time shot hit the post. Fortunately Dylan had followed up into the area and tapped in the rebound for a well deserved Wolves’ goal: 1-0. A minute later Tom had another long range effort hit the post.

Half Time: 1-0

The Eagles broke forward from the re-start but Cole was quickly out to smother the ball. Two minutes into the half Jacob won a corner with a good run down the right wing. Dylan put in a high ball which the Eagles’ GK got a hand to and the ball dropped nicely to Ollie who turned well and fired in from close range: 2-0.

A couple of minutes later the Eagles won a free kick which Nathan cleared upfield to Jacob who lobbed the last defender to put Dylan clear and his shot just went over the bar.

Six minutes into the half the Wolves were now passing much better and Dylan found Jacob in the box with a neat pass. With a defender on his back blocking any shot, Jacob played an unselfish ball back to Tom on the edge of the area who shot powerfully into the bottom right corner – super play! 3-0.

The remainder of the game was all about the Wolves, although the Eagles did have one long range effort go wide. William, Nathan and Tom were covering all their attacks and distributing the ball well from the back. Mid way through the half the Wolves won a free kick a couple of yards outside of the Eagles penalty area. Instead of blasting the ball Dylan stroked the ball over the wall right into the top right corner – unstoppable! 4-0.

The Wolves had a couple more chances to add to the score but in fairness to the Eagles they battled hard right to the final whistle.

Final score: 4-0.

This was another very good performance by the boys against a resilient Eagles’ defence. We mustn’t underestimate the pressure the team were under having to get at least a point to secure the title. Everyone once again played with determination and passion and I couldn’t be prouder of the team!

We have had several really tough games this season with just one goal separating the teams, however not once have the boys’ heads gone down and they have always kept battling to the final whistle. Every single player has made a massive contribution to their success this season – they truly are an outstanding ‘team’!

Well done and thank you!
