Home league match played on 20 October 2012.
Kicked off at 12:00 PM

Another tough game against the team lying just one place below us in the league. Like us, they had lost only once this season and had the meanest defence in the
league, having conceded just 2 goals from their 6 games.
However as our strikers are on form with Dylan and Jacob hitting double figures already this season and both in the top 5 of the league’s goal scorers table, we were
confident we would get the ball in the net.
Corby had other ideas and attacked downhill from the kick off. Our defence was caught cold and Cole was called on to save first with his feet and then again with a
great dive. Corby persisted, attacking the loose ball and although Ollie seemed to have cleared the ball off the line the referee gave the goal to Corby: 0-1
Corby’s lively Number 19 was causing our defence a few problems and had a shot blocked by Tom before Cole saved another. Straight afterwards Tom was on hand
to pick up a loose ball and found Dylan in midfield with a quick pass. With Jacob bearing down on goal, Dylan split the defence with a perfectly weighted through
ball and Jacob calmly placed the ball beyond the diving Corby keeper: 1-1
It was now end to end with the Corby Number 19 continually giving us problems, forcing another save from Cole before another effort went wide. Dylan, Jacob and
Charlie also had half chances to take the lead but Corby were giving us no time on the ball and made life very difficult for our front players.
Nathan started to get the measure of the Corby 19 as the half wore on and won the ball with a tenacious tackle as Corby threatened to break again. He then found
some space and picked out Dylan with a neat pass and the Wolves got their necks in front from a well placed Dylan strike: 2-1
Half Time: 2-1
The second half saw both teams battling it out in a finely balanced contest. Jacob and Dylan both had chances and were working well together stringing passes and
crosses together and Charlie showed some nice touches when he came on. Sam, Nathan and the tireless Ollie didn’t give an inch in midfield and when Corby did get
through William, Cole and Tom forced them into only a couple of half chances.
Corby didn’t give up, kept battling and almost got the equaliser in the dying minutes as Cole re-gathered a loose ball just as it hit the line.
Final score: Wolves 2- 1 Corby S&L
This was a huge team performance against a very well organised side with a couple of dangerous forwards. Not many teams will score against Corby and both
Wolves’ goals were very well worked with perfect passes beating the defence and cool, calm finishing in front of goal.
We have another very tough game next week against our old friends the Corby Warriors Samurais. The Samurais are currently one place ahead of us in the league in
third and are unbeaten this season so we will need another performance like this if we are to take the honours.
