Home league match played on 13 April 2014.
Kicked off at 11:10 AM

The last game of the season and a big match for the boys following the disappointing performance in the friendly against Ise Lodge Eagles last week after our scheduled game against Corby Diamonds had been cancelled.

The Swords were a very physical side and attacked from the kick off. The Swords had a shot hit the post after intercepting a Wolves goal kick and then followed up with a shot over the bar. They again intercepted a goal kick but fortunately the shot went wide.

The Wolves soon regained possession and Ollie had a shot after a good passing move with Jacob. Tom and Nathan then passed well to put Dylan clear and his shot went across the face of the goal.

The boys were working really well as a team and battling for every ball and on 12 minutes Dylan broke up the right wing and played a beautiful flighted cross into the box where Jacob flicked the ball up and headed home. 1-0

The midfield was being hotly contested but the Wolves were the more committed. William and Nathan were strong at the back and quick to break up any Sword's attack. Cole caught well from a corner and quickly released Dylan and his shot was well saved by the Sword' keeper. In the final minutes of the half the Swords got a free kick in front of goal but the shot went high over the bar.

Just before the half time whistle Jacob had a great long range shot saved on the line

Half Time 1-0

The Swords attacked strongly at the start of the second half. Tom did well to stop one attack and he put Dylan clear with a good pass; Dylan crossed the ball really well but no one was in he box to meet it. Nathan tackled hard to stop a couple of sword's surges and Cole saved a decent shot and then raced out to clear another attack.

Tom had a great shot from distance go just over the bar and then Cole made a good diving save as the swords kept up the pressure.

Ten minutes into the half and William was solid as last man back, and brought the ball into midfield. He picked out Dylan on the edge of the box with a good  pass and Dylan found the back of the net with a powerful low shot. 2-0

The swords didn't give up and kept driving forward. Cole saved a good effort on the floor and then caught another shot straight afterwards. Jacob and Ollie were snapping at the swords heels in midfield frustrating their players and breaking up the play as the Wolves defended their lead.

With the final whistle due the Swords managed to get into the Wolves penalty area and as Cole came out bravely to dive on the ball, it slipped behind him and the loose ball crossed the line as Tom desperately rushed back to clear. 2-1.

This was a great win against strong opposition. The boys had a lot more passion and fire in their bellies today and battled for every ball. They played much better as a unit and the passing and movement was back to their best. This performance summed up a fantastic season - undefeated in league games and just the one unlucky draw! Does it get any better?
