Tingley Athletic U16s Green hosted Farsley Celtic Juniors U16 Blue at the Tingley Athletic U7 Titans ground on 11 October 2026, with kick-off at 12noon in a league fixture. The match ended in a 3-0 defeat for Tingley Athletic after a challenging 80 minutes of football plus added time.

Tingley Athletic lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, aiming to balance defensive solidity with attacking support. Josh Shepherd took his place between the sticks as goalkeeper. The back four consisted of Harry Young at right back, Anthony Dobke and Max Morgan as central defenders, and Matthew Hanvey on the left. In midfield, Luke Wilson and Jayden Day operated centrally, tasked with both breaking up play and initiating attacks. Ahead of them, James Jagger occupied the right attacking midfield role, Harley-Jay Eastwood played centrally behind the striker, and Harry Allman took up the left attacking midfield position. Leading the line was George Williams as the lone striker. On the bench were substitutes Lucas Kinder, Elijah Moon, and Bobby Johnson.

The match began with Tingley Athletic showing intent, but it was Farsley Celtic Juniors who struck first. Early defensive efforts were notable, with Matthew Hanvey clearing a dangerous situation in the 22nd minute and making a crucial tackle three minutes later. Jayden Day’s long pass at the same time demonstrated Tingley’s attempt to launch forward quickly. Despite these efforts, Farsley’s pressure grew.

Josh Shepherd was called into action early, making a key save in the 16th minute and again later in the first half. Attempts from Tingley’s James Jagger were frequent but lacked precision, with one shot sailing high in the 21st minute and another saved in the 28th. Luke Wilson provided a key pass in the 31st minute, while Anthony Dobke intercepted a threatening move in the 37th minute. Jagger continued to press with another attempt in the 38th minute, but the half ended goalless.

At half-time, Tingley made two substitutions immediately after the break, bringing on Elijah Moon for Harley-Jay Eastwood and Lucas Kinder replacing Max Morgan. However, just before the interval, Farsley Celtic Juniors took the lead with a goal direct from a corner kick at the 45th minute, a close-range strike that caught the home defence off guard.

The second half saw Tingley pushing for an equaliser. George Williams had a shot saved in the 47th minute, while Harry Allman’s effort went high shortly after. Matthew Hanvey continued to defend resolutely, making another vital tackle in the 48th minute. Harry Young contributed offensively with a key pass in the 49th minute, followed by Lucas Kinder’s key pass a minute later. Josh Shepherd remained alert, making further saves at the 50th and 56th minutes to keep his side in the contest.

Defensively, Harry Young intercepted a move in the 63rd minute, and Hanvey again prevented a chance with an interception in the 64th. Despite these efforts, Tingley struggled to find a breakthrough. Harry Allman’s attempt in the 67th minute went high, and Anthony Dobke made a timely tackle to halt an attack.

Farsley extended their lead in the 70th minute, capitalising on a defensive mistake with a well-placed shot from outside the box. Tingley’s George Williams was denied again by the opposition goalkeeper in the 72nd minute, and he then provided a key pass in the 74th minute. Shortly after, Bobby Johnson replaced Harley-Jay Eastwood in the 75th minute.

The visitors sealed the victory with a third goal in the 76th minute, again following a defensive error. At the same time, James Jagger attempted a shot, and a yellow card was shown to a Farsley player for unsporting behaviour. Josh Shepherd produced a remarkable point-blank reaction save in the 78th minute to prevent further damage.

Despite the defeat, Matthew Hanvey was named player of the match for his consistent defensive displays and crucial interventions throughout the game. Tingley Athletic will look to regroup after this tough home loss as they prepare for their next league fixture.
