UOC Football faced ECU at the SLIIT Grounds on 23 August 2026, with kick-off at 8:30am in a tournament neutral match contested over 90 minutes plus added time. The encounter ended in a 2-0 victory for ECU, who secured their win through goals in both halves.
UOC Football lined up in a traditional 4-4-2 formation, aiming for balance across the pitch. In goal, Muthusha Chamod was tasked with commanding the defence and organising from the back. The defensive line consisted of Rashmitha Nilum at right back, Izzath Raji and Abdul Raheem as central defenders, and Arshad Burhanudeen on the left flank. The midfield four featured Pasindu Prabhath on the right wing, Saddhiq Ahamadh and Mohomed Ihsan centrally, and Pawan Fernando on the left side. Up front, the striking partnership was formed by Radeesh Migara on the right and Sasith Manakal on the left. The substitutes bench included Anuruth Kaushalya, who was available to influence the game if called upon.
The match began with both sides probing cautiously, but it was ECU who broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute. Their forward managed to find space inside the box and fired a precise right-footed finish past Chamod, giving ECU an early advantage. UOC Football sought to respond but struggled to carve out clear chances against a disciplined ECU defence.
Tensions rose in the 32nd minute when Abdul Raheem received a yellow card for a bad tackle, a caution that would require greater discipline from the central defender for the remainder of the match. Despite UOC’s efforts, the first half concluded with ECU maintaining their 1-0 lead.
Shortly after the interval, UOC made a tactical substitution in the 50th minute, bringing on Anuruth Kaushalya to replace left back Arshad Burhanudeen. This change aimed to inject fresh energy and possibly adjust the defensive shape as UOC searched for an equaliser.
However, ECU doubled their lead in the 67th minute with a spectacular long-range strike that left Chamod with no chance. This goal effectively put the game beyond doubt and forced UOC to chase the match in the closing stages.
Despite their best efforts, UOC Football were unable to find a way back into the game, with ECU’s defence holding firm and their midfield controlling possession effectively. The match ended 2-0 in favour of ECU, a result that reflected their clinical finishing and defensive solidity.
UOC will look to regroup following this defeat and build on the positives from their performance as they prepare for their next fixture.
