Home cup match played on 08 January 2012.

Some things in life are just meant to be. In the minds and hearts of all the Warley players their seems to be a chapter that needs to be rewritten and just not ‘meant to be’ I refer to last May’s League cup final when the Warley boys were left heartbroken to a last minute Brierley Hagley goal which left them with nothing after their heroics and turmoil that peppered their journey getting to the final.

So to this season’s league cup quarter final Warley welcomed league 2’s leaders Halesowen Town Colts. With only 2 league defeats all season the colts would prove worthy opponents to the Warley Boys, on paper anyway.

Straight from the off Warley attacked playing down the slope and created a number of chances all of which were woefully missed. Warley thought the scoring had started in the 10th minute but Dan W’s goal was ruled offside. In fact man of the match Dan W did secure another breakthrough in the 14th minute when he was brought down by the colt keeper only then to see Sam S’s penalty saved by the culprit. On 17 minutes another superb run from Dan saw the ball come through to Junior whose shot was going wide until Sam S stuck out a boot to fire home Warley Boro 1 Halesowen Colts 0 As expected with Warley’s domination more goals were to follow and 5 minutes later Dan W assisted Sam to score he’s and Warley’s second. Warley Boro 2 Halesowen Colts 0. 2 minutes before the break the goal of the game was scored as a great ball from Jack B found an unmarked Sam in the centre circle he turned and farmed it to Junior on the left who darted down the wing, he’s chipped cross found the on rushing Sam who hit it straight on the volley from 25 yards hitting the back of the net before the keeper had time to blink. Everyone was left agasp at the quality on the approach play and the ferocity of the shot. One pundit even called the strike ‘hotter than Jessica Jane Clement’! Half Time Warley Boro 3 Halesowen Colts 0

Matt was pleased with the performance and called for more goals in the second half and it wasn’t long before the Warley boys duly delivered but only after a stunning save from Colm to deny Halesowen diving to he’s right and pushing the ball past the post after a rare lapse in concentration from the defence. On 40 minutes Reece provided Dan W who lofted the ball over the keeper Warley Boro 4 Halesowen Colts 0 Dan W then turned to provider again when he’s maizey run found inform Junior on the penalty spot to make it Warley Boro 5 Halesowen Colts 0. In the 60th minute a massive kick from Colm found the more than impressive Dan W who slipped he’s defender and placed the ball in the corner to the right of the keeper Warley Boro 6 Halesowen Colts 0.  Warley’s dominance was amazing. The football they played was at times just breathtaking and so number 7 arrived as Junior again turned provider for Dan W to score he’s hatrick. Warley Boro 7 Halesowen Colts 0 The Rout was completed in the 31st minute as Dan W again set Sam up to complete the scoring. Final Score Warley Boro 8 Halesowen Colts 0.

A stunning victory from the boys and what a great way to start 2012. Everyone played their part and impressed. Midfield won nearly all the 50-50 tackles, the defence was dominant and the strikers were ‘on fire’. Communication could be better but that will come. So feet on the ground as we go to the leaders next Sunday in what should be a pulsating encounter.
