In response to last week’s shambles the Warley boys came out fighting to end their running streak of no wins in 6 matches. On beautifully crisp sunny afternoon It was by far their best performance of the season as they had been beaten handsomely 5-2 by the visitors Phoenix Colts only a matter of weeks ago.

With Reece and Alex injured Matt put the two terriers Anil and Azza in midfield. It was a brilliant tactic as from the very start to the very end as the boys stepped up to the call to dominant and controlled the flow and movement of the ball. That said, so was every player that took to the field today. The two forwards Sam and Dan combined to score 5 goals breaking the 100 goal mark as a striking duo, the defence became defiant with attitude and I don’t believe Rooney would have scored against them this afternoon such was their commitment to the cause.

From the off Warley took the game to the visitors. Sam S lofted the keeper on 12 minutes after a clearance from Callum found he’s deadly right foot. Warley Boro 1 Phoenix Colts East 0. Two minutes later the right boot latched on to Dan F’s pass to fire past the keeper. Warley Boro 2 Phoenix Colts East 0. Warley then continued to dominate and have more of the procession with both Matharu’s going close.

Half time and the lads were buzzin. They had’t been this happy for a long time and although they knew that they would be playing uphill on the No2 pitch (this is by far the worst pitch in the league) the mood they returned to the pitch with meant there would be no mercy for the opposition. So it proved four minutes into the half as Dan W. passed to Sam S whose right boot completed he’s hatrick and a wonderful return to form.  Warley Boro 3 Phoenix Colts East 0. On 57 minutes Anil won the ball in the midfield, looked up to see Dan W. He’s clinical through ball allowed Dan to finish with precision Warley Boro 4 Phoenix Colts East 0. The game took a new edge as Phoenix pushed four in attack but Warley’s defence stood firm in the face of adversity led by the safe hands of Tree and Kieran who had a marvellous game. The icing on the cake came 8 minutes from time as Dan W picked up a pass and threaded he’s way through the Colts defence, shimmy the keeper and calmly score, a fantastic goal to end a brilliant performance from all. Final score: Warley Boro 5 Phoenix Colts East 0. Happy days.

Most of the team’s players and parents celebrated Matt’s 40th Birthday last night with a surprise party at the Portland. The biggest surprise this weekend has to be today’s performance. We totally outclassed the opposition and bought a renewed emphasis to the season. Training breeds confidence and is paramount to a winning team.  Rumours are plenty that players will leave in the summer so let’s enjoy today and ensure there are many more like them in the future and make this the best season ever.
